A few vessels to look out for are Honor and Bosporus Highway. Here's hoping either might contain some week 36 BMW X3 M40i's.
Loch,

Is yours already at status: 9620 At sea ?

If so, happy days
Apparently the status "At Sea" only happens after the boat from the US departs Bremerhaven after unloading EU LHD cars.

Will likely be a few weeks until that status occurs as one of the boats I mentioned earlier (Bosporus Highway) isn't scheduled to arrive back to Bremerhaven until end of September (30th).

Interesting....there seem to be an awful lot of status changes between 5500 (when it is essentially built) to 9800 - Arrived at Dealer.

Another interesting thing I noticed. Both the Freedom and Themis sail from Charleston on the 13th, yet the Themis arrives in Southampton (via Bremerhaven) on 25th Sept, whereas the Freedom only arrives in Southampton (again via Bremerhaven) on the 9th October - here's hoping mine's on the Themis then

Maybe one is an express ship and the other stops at more US ports before it heads across the pond to Europe and then the UK.

Here's hoping we all get our cars around the dates we were going for on our orders.

I VT'd my previous car in the middle of August, so am looking forward to getting a new one back soon!

How long do the ships take from South Africa? My car is being built in 2 weeks. End November delivery. Sound right?

Not entirely.....the "Themis" basically goes direct from Charleston to Bremerhaven, then to Zeebrugge before Southampton whereas the Freedom calls at Baltimore (twice according to the schedule) then Antwerp, Bremerhaven and Southampton. So the number of ports and routes is not drastically different, Themis must just sail faster!

Whats's "VT'd" by the way ?

My current car is going this Friday (sold privately much quicker than expected, but for a healthy premium over the PX value I was offered) so I'm hoping my new one arrives earlier than forecast !

Then it's got to be Ceramic Coated (straight from the dealers) so that'll be another few days wait.

My week 36 production M40i is already built and on its way to my dealer in California. It actually started production early, week 35 on Aug 26th. Should be here within the next couple weeks

Clivem, why South Africa? I though all M40is are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

And congrats on your order today!

It's what I was told. I'll re-check as I don't expect they'll have just the one 40i engine to install. I hope it's not a first!

Get your VIN from your dealer. If the seventh last digit is an "L" it'll be being manufactured in Spartanburg (USA)

LOL, bro. When I got mine a few weeks ago, I suddenly "wasn't feeling too well," and had to go a few hours early on a Friday. Hope you did the same.

Dealer just confirmed that mine has been built (Week 36) and should be on the boat en route to Down Under next week or so. Hope it will be an early Nov delivery.

Wished BMW AU had the same tracking services via the portal just like BMWUSA!

If of any consolation, same is with Europe. In today's world being unable to track on website a car production is just uncomprehending.

Hi Mike,

VT is voluntary termination of a PCP after 50% has been paid back to BMW Finance. You can effectively terminate your finance deal as long as you haven't exceeded your mileage allowance that is left in your agreement. If you have, they may ask for a payment to cover the shortfall.

Luckily for me, I had about 12k miles unused in my agreement at the time of the termination date and had no payments to make to BMW finance.

Left me free to negotiate a decent deal for the new wheels...

SOrry, busy driving it and playing with it. Had an interesting morning. I took the new X3 out and drove a route I enjoy. I left it in comfort adaptive and did some curvy stuff. I love this car for this mode. It is a VERY comfortable car to drive in this mode.

The noisiest thing in the cabin was the ventilated seats (which work really well).

I was surprised to find I can adjust the ASD so I set it to reduced. If it is piping in engine noise, I can't hear it but would still like to disable it.

The H-hold feature is peachy keen great.

ASS is stupid.

The full auto cruise control works so much better than my Acura.

Full screen CarPlay is the bees knees. iDrive 7 is very easy to use and setup everything.

The HUD is the best. Perfect amount of info, legible, and I missed it when I took the Z4 out next.

I did some sport mode driving and it turns this thing into a beast. Still in the break in phase so nothing too hard on the accelerator but took the curves aggressively. The 19" all season tires have a lot of understeer when turning really hard. This is not a sports car. But it does exactly what we want: comfortable people hauler with a beast mode.

I drove my Z4 that I just chipped right after on the same route. Holy crap! There is no amount of money that will turn the X3 into a Z4. And frankly, I don't want it to. The Z4 can't pull a 4,400 lbs trailer or haul a christmas tree home or carry more than 2 people with a weekend's worth of clothes. I knew that, but until I drove them back to back, I thought the X3 handled very sporty. It does, but I'm glad I have the Z4 for the better sports car driving experience.

Overall first impression: Giggling like a school girl. This car is perfect for us and why we bought it. Hauling things and towing heavy stuff with a lot of fun driving in between.

Pics to follow.

Hi Corn18,

You mentioned you could adjust ASD and reduce the piped noise. Was that via iDrive 7 or some 3rd party device?

Glad to hear you are enjoying the overall experience. I'm in the agonising waiting stage while the car makes it way over to the UK for a collection at the end of October.

I will be keen to hear your thoughts after the initial several weeks of driving as I lead up to collecting my own car.

Congrats all round and can't wait to see your pics after you have fun driving it...

I adjusted ASD via iDrive 7. I might go out and set it to different settings to see if I can hear a difference.

Thanks for that. Keen to hear what differences you see with the interior fake engine noise with the different settings.

Could you also post a picture of the settings menu for ASD in iDrive 7 for us eagerly awaiting MY2020 buyers?

If this can be set via iDrive 7, then it potentially means that BimmerCode or BimmerLink could be enabled to control these settings further...
