"Oil Change Soon" Alert in iDrive

A bit surprised that my X4 displayed an orange "Oil Change Due Soon" alert in iDrive - with 1,300 miles to go. The car only has 8,500 miles on the clock, so this will be her first official oil change.

I would like to know how early other X4 M40i owners have received their free oil change from BMW. Would BMW accept an oil change with 1,300 miles on the service (count-down) indicator just because iDrive says "due soon?"

I do annual or 10K, whichever comes first. Mine came early as well; it showed up as due at one year mark from when dealership got car rather than four months later when I took possession.

Whether they will do earlier varies by service center. Always best to call SA first.

I have both been denied and taken earlier. It is frustrating to make appointment online and show up, just to be turned away.

The other thing to consider is what else is on the horizon. Service center will usually do bare minimum and you would would not want to need to come back a few months later for something else.

Did my first at 500 miles, then at 5,000 and every multiple of 5,000 thereafter. Dealer does the even (10's) and I do all of the odd (5's). Castrol European blend 0w 40. Thinking of switching to Mobil 1, however.

This 10K oil change will be the cars 3rd. 1,200 mile break-in, then at 5,000mile and so forth. Looks like we are on the same "plan" except that I do buy my oil from BMW.
