I just picked up a M40i, and had similar issues, with the Connected App...along with other iDrive7 issues. After a few reboots, I got most of it working. However, I have an Android phone and couldn't get the 3D view to show up. I took the car back to the dealer and they did a software update (which came out the same day), and all of a sudden 3D view appeared on my phone, and all issues with Connected app were resolved.

IMPORTANT UPDATE.. CONNECTED BMW.. since I'm probably going to get rid of my 2020 X3 for a couple of reasons, I thought I would try.. Disconnecting the x3 battery for 30 mins. Now the "Connected BMW" app works 👍I just disc. the negative side at the battery & now the app all works. remote lock. Location, mileage, unfortunately didn't fix the dimming dash issue, but did take care of BMW CONNECT APP that hasn't worked for 2 weeks.

How did we ever get along without all this stuff? I can't believe I used to drive a car that wouldn't even tell me where to go, or what was playing on the radio.
As for a return to GM - there is no question that the XT4, or whatever it is called will be a calm, tranquil place from which to cruise highways in. You can bet that virtually no road noise will intrude on your cabin, or road information will come to your steering wheel. I daresay you'll likely miss the sweet sound and sheer grunt of the BMW straight 6, but hopefully all the tech will work as advertised over there. For that matter, you're probably better off in a Lexus. It will give virtually the same driving experience, but with more reliability. Mind you, I'm not begrudging you your anger - I'd be severely hacked off too. I'm just sorry your first BMW experience wasn't as great as it should have been. There have been many millions of people satisfied with this marque over the years, and you should have had that experience too. Good luck and happy trails!! |

I have had exactly the same issues. Picked my M40i last Thursday (UK) and the app just won't update, been to the dealer not much help tbh. But, believe it or not I have managed to spend the last 25 years of motoring life without an app telling me where my car is, or telling me how much fuel it has or hasn't, I can tell these things by looking out the window of my house or sitting in the seat of the car!! Just another gimmick that the marketing department thinks we need, when really I just want to pop to the shops in a bit of comfort.

Mine stopped updating the day after yours. Clueless on why. But today, for some unknown reason, it seems to be working again. Maybe yours is back too? |

Well, I started this thread, so I'll try to end it. I just got my car back with the updated iDrive 7 software. For some reason, it took my dealer a week(!) to figure it out. I know they reloaded the software at least three times, but in the end, it all works . . . Remote 3D, Vehicle Location, Unlock, Lock, etc., and for that, I'm happy. But BMW should have handled this sooooo much better.

As a person that's owned a lot of different brands ID6 was arguably the best infotainment systems I have used so I would think in time ID7 will get to the point that it's as good or better. It's just a shame they released it with so many bugs as I can understand the frustration of not having features working and hopefully BMW straightens this all out sooner than later.

Have you got a 2020 M40i? If so can you check the vehicle image that appears in the iDrive screen when you go to CAR/SETTINGS as well as the image that appears in the centre of the live cockpit when for example a door is open? Is the image a correct image of your car or is it a generic X3/X4 image ? Mine appears to have changed from an X3 M40i prior to the update to fix Remote 3D to a generic/SE model post update. |

Honestly, I'm not positive. I know the image was (and is) correct in the Connected app (down to correct interior color) and I was impressed with that. The fact that I can't remember the same image in the vehicle's digital dash and center display makes me think it wasn't previously correct.

I noticed sometime around Christmas that my Connected app had not updated since Dec 4th and finally got around to calling the 800 number today, listed on the contact page of the BMW Connected website. Got transferred to the genius dept and "viola!" it now works.
He had me check a couple of things in the menu, which yielded no solutions, but what finally gave me my remote services back was to, from the main menu, click Apps, then the options button below the scroll wheel, click update. Wait for that to finish, then press & hold the volume button (for about 15 seconds). This resets the iDrive. 1-2 minutes later, the vehicle status updated in the Connected app, showing current fuel level, range, etc. After another minute, the app was able to locate the car. Update: It's not working again after a couple of short drives.. I went through the process for a second time just now and remote services and updated fuel level/range are slowly coming back. Remote services i.e. horn/flash lights came back within a minute, but took about 10 mins for fuel level/range to update. "Vehicle status updated" date/time are still showing the earlier update, from about 14 hours ago. I just like to be able to check my fuel level before I head out of the house in the morning. Nice knowing locked/unlocked status too, as I am a repeat offender for accidentally unlocking from my pocket. Come on BMW! Last edited by 335idrive; 01-10-2020 at 12:46 AM.. |
