Did anyone take their car in for rear view camera recall?
Sorry -meant the backup camera. The reason I ask is because of the issue I am having with my Idrive display dimming what appears to be 50% on overcast days. I took it in for a second time today and the service manager and their top tech looked at it and agreed it was too dim. They took out another 2020 park it right next to mine and the display was perfect - as mine is during sunny days. They told me since my car was manufactured in November this software fix was probably already applied but in the other 2020 since it was 6 months old it does not have the backup camera recall fix yet. They believe that this recall fix may have also intentionally resulted in a dimmer screen. If that is the case since and it is "as intended" I am stuck with with a really lousy display on overcast days. Has anyone had their car in for the backup camera recall fix and notice this screen dimming issue now?

After the software update, my screen also feels dimmer. More like they increased the black level. However, it also looks more sharper/less grainy than it did before

In the case of my car it is not just a feel, it is night and day, especially when looking at the 2020 parked right next to me. I really hope the answer is not "this is what was intended"....if so why in the world would they intend to change the display from crystal clear perfect to dim?

Unfortunately when taking it picture it does not give close to what you see with the naked eye. Both the service manager and the senior technician came out and looked at my car (and at the 2020 they parked right next to it) and agreed there was a pronounced difference. I even drove my car from outside into the car port for service to show them how it changes once inside (inside is perfect just as it is when in sunlight outside). Was nice to hear I was not going crazy but I am not too happy about the possibility of having to live with a very dim display on any days in which the sun is not out. I know the notices for the recalls just recently came out but if I were in the shoes of those getting them but I did not see any issues with my backup camera there is no way I would take it in (if it ends up they tell me this is no "as expected"). Keep in mind this dimness is anything at all on the Idrive screen (including the backup camera) along with the strip which reads out the temperature under that - the cockpit cluster is all fine. To give some perspective, as sit here in front of my Mac and move the brightness bar down from the brightest it really is as though I moved it down to the half-way point.

Here are a couple that don't really do it justice. Strange thing is both of these were today on an overcast day (first time I saw any signs of a good display on an overcast day).

Took my '19 X3 M40i in for the backup camera recall last week.
iDrive was version Q-something before, and version S-something after Also tried to code CarPlay full screen (codemybimmer.ca). They said they had it working on Q-firmwares but not S-firmwares, so I'm still SOL on that. |

My rear view camera didn't come on today. Put it in drive and back and reverse, still black. Went on after I turned car off and back on though.

Found out this morning that the software update for two recalls (reprogram OBD and rearview camera) for our M40i did not take, and the dealer thinks they bricked the head unit. What really gets me is that I fought taking it in because they were not safety issues for me. Faulty wiring and airbags are one thing, but these piddly “recalls” are another.
They never call you to let you know, you always have to reach out to get updates. And for these headaches you get a crappy loaner. |

I took my x4 in last month and it took hourssss. Like 5+.
I was quoted the same 30 min. I eventually left in a loaner and had the car dropped off the next day. It was a nightmare. I only post this as a warning that if the dealer wants to offer you a loaner and get you in your wag just accept the offer . |

Thanks, this was very helpful. This is easily fixed with ista+
If you end up with a 7 series as your 3d view representation, its because after they reprogrammed the car, they didnt transfer the vehicle type to the surround view system. The system defaults to a g12 7 series. Its a little annoying because that means they didn't check for faults after updating An error of 800b8a gets logged to the fault memory. 1) Check the fault memory for FC 800B8A “TRSVC: vehicle type not updated. 2) Calculate the test plan. 3) Select “Load vehicle model” and finish the test plan. The hu gets restarted and after that the correct 3d view model shows. This little issue was especially annoying because the representation of the car in space was off by quite a bit, top view would show me hitting the car behind when i still had a few feet. Top view would show the wheels about to hit a parking stop but rear would show the parking stop still visible |

FYI, my IDrive got updated from NBTEvo_O to NBTEvo_S as part of this upgrade.
Reset my Full Screen Carplay change and now I can't use USB to set it back, need to go the ENET route. |
