Yeah, 0 means the main headlights are off and they won’t be automatically turned on when it goes dark, but it will still keep the Daytime Running Lights on.

Why would you want to code out the daylight running lights?...there's just no good reason to do so.
Just keep the switch to AUTO, and lock the car when you park in...no matter in your garage or elsewhere....that way the car and its electronics are (for the most part) actually off. |

I coded them off in my audi. So we could sit in the car when it's running and not have the lights on. |

Wonder if it’s a Canadian regulation thing. Our old Volvo xc90 would have the lights on no matter the position, I think my research determined regulation in a combined market.

You don’t say, so we have no clue as to what types of lights your current BMW has or what type your old f25 had. If you had LED headlights on your f25…perhaps the DRLs may have been your rings, thus the actual “headlight” low beams may have not illuminated.

"0" do not turn off lights
My old F25 has xenon lights, and the new G01 has LED headlights. When I select Position "0" on the F25, the main lights turn off, and the angel eyes stay on. I believe those are the DRLs. However, on the G01, "0" is the same as auto (doesn't turn the lights off like on the F25). When it's cloudy and the switch is on Auto, the lights turn on. If I select "0", the lights still stay on.
If I select the parking lights or daytime running lights,( between "0" and auto then the lights turn off. I wonder if this is just me or if everyone else has the same behavior. |

And following your reasoning, I don't quite understand why we also have the fourth option (lights always on) if when it's on "0", the lights stay always on. But shame on me; I should probably read the manual to clarify that. As a side note, keep in mind that the second option (what you called "parking lights"), the DRLs will stay on even after shutting down the engine and closing the doors.
