Battery amperage for G01 LCI
Title says it. Taking the delivery of my new G01 LCI xDrive 30i and found it to be a 90Ah battery unlike all other G01s in the dealer's lot that come with 105Ah battery.
Reading this thread and figured there could be configurations that triggered this difference. It would be either one H9 105Ah battery or two batteries 90Ah H9 + H4 auxiliary: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2060054 Can someone confirm that? The only option that looks to be different on my 30i is dynamic damper control. Trying to figure out if that's something random. |

A 90 AH battery will be the slightly smaller H8 battery class size…which gives more room for the additional aux battery when you have the dual battery set-up.
The H8 battery class size usually comes with one of three Amp Hour ratings…depending on battery brand:

If the main 12v battery has been replaced by a previous owner…they may have installed the smaller H8 battery instead of the larger H9 battery just to save money. So a visual is the only way to tell which one they installed.
If you have the dual battery setup…the aux battery is monitored by the PCU (power control unit). The PCU is located on the rear right side behind the cargo panels (look below the rear fuse box). See N7 in the illustration below: The auxiliary battery should be located in the engine bay…see G6 in the illustration below: The main battery is G1 in the illustration below:

I have the dual battery system In my 2018 30i . The rear battery is 105 AH and the front one is a 50 AH . Not sure if the dealership put a new 105 AH in before I bought it or not. It was a CPO ,Both batteries are 12V .

Thanks for details! Checked 3 2024 G01 LCI xDrive 30i X3s
#1: Very basic configuration with almost nothing, got single 105Ah battery and no PCU #2: Almost spec out w/ all options including DAP and PAP, w/o dynamic handling package, also a single 105Ah battery and no PCU #3: Almost identical w/ #2, with additional dynamic handling package (variable rate steering, dynamic damper, torque vectoring by rear brake), dual battery setup w/ 90Ah main battery and PCU All 2024 and manufactured in a similar time range. Seems to be triggered by dynamic handling package but may need additional datapoints to confirm. |

Glad you could resolve the issue. Batteries have now different charge ("amperes" is not correct term) not only because of engine size and type (big diesel with its compression ratio and glow plugs needs more charge than 1,5L petrol), but also because of additional equipment - rear heated seats (I consider front seats as standard), better audio system, independent heater, trailer hitch to recharge trailer batteries - maybe it's only European thing; 13 pin socket is used), start/stop system,...
I think it's best to follow the VIN, it has nearly all equipment coded in itself. Unfortunately, things get complicated and I'm not able to simply find battery, either it's N/A, or of different specifications than in the car. And I'm sure the battery is original from factory. |
