2023 X4 M40i Driver Door Noise

Took delivery of my 2023 X4 M40i about 3 weeks ago, and since day 1, there's a small noise I can hear from the driver door towards the b pillar, especially when driving on an uneven pavement or bumpy roads. It makes me feel that either the door is built from some cheap materials or do not close properly.

It's not consistently happening but very annoying when it occurs, my wife on the passenger side can hear nothing so she always thought I am crazy, took it to the service department two times already, and every time when I went on a test drive with the service rep, we cannot reproduce it...but then the next day or hours...it will come back

I have been trying to record a video but since it's not happening consistently, it's very hard to pull up the phone right away and record it while driving when it happens. Does anyone has similar experience? How do you deal with it?

I am at the point where I feel like I should just accept the fact and live with it , and whenever I got a chance to record the video, I will attempt to go the dealership again. Going to the dealership for such reason it's pretty time consuming...

I am getting a crackling or plastic/paper rustling noise coming from the passenger side door. It only happens first thing in the morning on the drive into work. If I press on the door panel in a couple of areas (the wood grain area), it goes away. Been in once and "no noises observed". My post is to say, I feel your pain, very annoying.

Could it be the outer door bottom trim piece flexing as you go over bumps and uneven surfaces? Push on it when outside the vehicle and see if it makes any creaking noises.

Bumping an old thread because I'm having a similar issue with my 2023 X3. It started a couple weeks ago and it sounds similar to yours.

Driver's side, either from the door/door frame, or somewhere near the driver's wheel well, or sometimes even sounds like the dash. It's a creaking/slight rattle sound that happens over uneven surfaces. It seems to mainly be at lower speeds but that could also be because I just don't hear it at higher speeds due to wind noise, etc.

I've tried gummi pflege'ing the doors, pressing on all kinds of stuff outside the car, crawled under the dash to see if anything was loose, checked under the hood to see if anything under there made a similar noise. I'm at a loss so far and it's driving me insane

I have went to over six dealership now, and none of the service rep I worked with admit the fact that the weird squeaking and creaking sounds exist after they watched my recorded video and heard it on the test drive. It is super frustrating.

Apparently dealership either don't have a solution or just don't want to deal with such issue. I am now working with a few indie shop and doing some experiments myself. I will share with everyone when I found a solution but feel free to do the same if you find anything!

Can't believe a $80k vehicle has such issue ...

For what it's worth, when I got home I started pressing on everything outside of the car. Doors, fenders, hood, etc and once I got to the area where the hinges are on the hood, I was able to replicate the exact sound I keep hearing inside. So I'm 95% sure that's what it is.

Now which part it is that's causing the problem, I have no idea as there are several pieces there. But it's a start at least.

I'm not sure if our problems are identical but if you haven't checked that area, I'd try it and see if it sounds similar to what you keep hearing.

I followed this YouTube video and it completely remove the noise I am getting while driving. Worth to give it a shot if yours also coming from this area of the door.

This is the tape I applied https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...eniuslink=true

Not sure how long it will last but at least it's gone for now.

Hi

I have attached a BMW Service Bulletin on wind noise which may be of assistance. It relates to the X3 G01 and should be relevant in identifying possible sources of the squeaking.

I also had this problem and BWM applied a Teflon strip of tape along the inner door frame from the mirror all the way to the back door pillar. This stopped the door rubbers and plastics etc rubbing against the frame and squeaking...like magic it disappeared and has never returned.

I have attached a service bulletin which explains this Teflon tape solution in more detail.

The part number of the tape is 83199407798 but be aware it is expensive and comes in 30 metre rolls.

I had it done under warranty so was free but you can buy the tape. I think there are a number of suppliers that stock it if BMW wont repair under warranty.

Hope this helps

Pity BMw cannot solve this in manufacture considering the cost of their product

Just curious, was it worse when the weather was cold? I’m going crazy trying to identify door noises in my 23 M40i. It’s worse at cold temps over bumpy pavements. Almost as if door seals are rattling.

I reside in California, so it's hard to gauge if the noise worsens during cold weather since the temperature here remains around 60°F. My car is currently at the service center for the third time due to this persistent noise. I'm really hoping for a definitive solution because it's also driving me crazy. Honestly, if they can't fix it this time, I'm seriously considering selling it.

I had a similar issue with my '23 M40i - a rattle that sounded like it was coming from the driver's door when driving on rough pavement. Turns out BMW has a service bulletin on this, and it is NOT coming from the door - it's the washer fluid tank. Apparently the fix is to install some felt lining between the tank and the body; so far it seems to have solved the problem.
