Maybe the parts shortages are why they discontinued the 30e but kept the (I assume) more profitable 45e?

Is there a comparable existing color to Brooklyn grey? Looks almost like chalk or nardo. I'd like to try out some of the interior options with a similar existing color in the online configurator

This is from the M3 in the BMW Individual visualizer. I wouldn't liken it (really) to either Nardo or Chalk.

The Global press release mentions the 30e, also Skyscraper Grey as of 12/21.
SOP August 2021.

Hybridization?

What is the point/benefit of the hybridization of the M40i if the torque and horsepower remain the same?
Gas mileage?
This seems to add unnecessary complexity and cost to an already relatively complex vehicle.
I personally stay away from purchasing hybrid vehicles although I would consider leasing one I like.

From the press release:

Quote:
The energy obtained by means of recuperation and stored in the 48-volt battery is used to supply the 12-volt electrical system and the electrically operated vehicle functions connected to it as well as generating additional drive power. For this purpose, the drive power flows back to the 48-volt starter generator, which then takes on the role of an electric drive and supports the combustion engine. This enables the engine to run as often as possible in an efficiency-optimized load range to reduce consumption peaks. The 48-volt starter generator also creates an electric boost during acceleration.

This instantly available additional output of 11 hp supports dynamic power delivery. The result is optimized off-the-line starts as well as an acceleration build-up during intermediate sprints. The powerful starter generator also improves the start/stop system with lower levels of vibration. This optimizes comfort when using the auto start/stop function as well as the coasting function.
So, initial acceleration from a stop and smoothing of the auto start/stop function.

I don't think I saw this bit (about the actual premiere of the new models) in the US press release:

Quote:
The market launch will get underway in summer 2021, following the start of production at the Spartanburg plant (USA) in August 2021. The new BMW X3 and the new BMW X4 are due to see their world premiere at the Chengdu Motor Show in China (27 August to 5 September), while the European premiere will take place at the IAA in Munich (7 to 12 September).

What's the difference between the following..

• Dynamic damper control as part of the Dynamic Handling Package for X3 30i
• Adaptive M Suspension as part of X3 M40i

I thought they were the same thing, but not I'm doubting that.

No laser lights? The photos of the headlights show some blue color in them, however.

Below is the write-up about the seats. What is so "new" about them? The photos look the same as previous years, right? Plus, why is Red leather not available but Red SensaTec is available, for the X3? That stinks.

Sports Seats with new Perforated SensaTec Upholstery:

The standard power Sport seats of the BMW X3 and BMW X4 have pronounced side bolsters to enhance the sporty look and provide improved lateral support in dynamic driving situations. The seats are upholstered in high-quality perforated SensaTec. The new upholstery offers a natural feel and a high-quality appearance while being easy to clean.
On the X3, the interior is available in Black, Canberra Beige, Cognac and Tacora Red SensaTec colors. An optional Vernasca leather interior is available in Black, Oyster and Mocha. The X4 M40i includes available Vernasca leather in Canberra Beige/black, Tacora Red and Cognac.

What's interesting is the New York Auto Show starts around ~August 20th, sounds as if they won't have the new cars there, which is interesting for the US market. Granted, the NY Auto Show is normally in April, but was moved due to Covid. Marketing at BMW has probably already picked the launch show/dates.

Will be interesting to see what BMW shows in NY.

You can configure a 30e LCI build on the German BMW page. So at least in Europe it's still available.

Regarding to lack of the 30e in the US, it could be similar the "let's delay the US launch by a year!" thing that happened to the X5 45e.

The G05 was released and Europe could order the PHEV while the US had to wait a year. I got a really early order slot for the 45e in the US but that was still well over a year and a half after the model had been announced for Europe.
