2019 X3 m40i exterior door trim (front passenger)
Hi,
I noticed today that my passenger exterior door trim is starting to separate from the body on my 2019 X3 m40i (see pictures). It wasn't hit and there doesn't appear to be any damage so I suspect that it may be due to the opening/closing of the door. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to fix it? I'm not sure how these panels clip on. Thanks! Mike |

Hi,
I've the same issue with left front door. IMO it's not an issue with the clips and screw. It's a trim problem. Will report to workshop during my oil change. Rgds Greg |

I also have same issue as stated, on front left hand driver side... not fixed. Got loosen when closing the door and tried (in vain) to put it back on. Dealership couldn't either. Not the end of the world though nonetheless annoying to look and think about...

We have the same on our UK M40i but only on one door.
Until the dealers re-open here in the UK, I'll have to wait to report it. Not good but re-assuring to see others have the same issue should the dealer say it's my fault. |

Hello,
Really late to this but I wanted to ask if any of you guys got this resolved? I picked up my new 2021 m40i today and I noticed my Passenger side door has the exact same issue. When I press it down towards the door, It goes into normal position but I can hear it "pop" out like when double sided tape tries to hold it but it can't, so not sure if there's some sort of double sided tape under it? Please let me know if you got it fixed and how, thank you!

Mario, there is BMW Belt bond securing it. I did the same as you, tried bending it back in to position. That sound you heard is tearing of the bond. Brought it in for service, dealer would not cover mine under warranty. (2020 X3M). I was a bit upset. Charged me $146 to repair it. Hope this helps. Does seem to be a common issue. Another indication of lack of quality control during assembly. A bit of a let down since these are not cheap vehicles.

Thank you! So they fixed it for you without having to change the whole part? I’ll speak to my dealer to see what they say about it, I don’t want to have the piece replaced since a new one would have to be painted etc. |

Neither the spare parts list nor the repair instructions do mention something like a "bond" Just 10 of these clips 07147460560 per door, a clip and a screw. Last edited by Ravenous666; 02-06-2021 at 10:16 AM.. |

I would also like to know!
From what I can see through the gap, I see the blue pins further into the molding, but right at the edge where the gap is I don’t see any pin, I think that’s where the screw goes but I don’t think the screw holds the molding at all, I can move the molding a little and I can see the part inside not move at all. And I can also hear some sort of tape sound when I push it down and it bounces back out. |

This is from the service write up: Customer states driver's door trim at bottom of door is not aligned. Check and advise.
Techs notes: Trim pulled away from door. Found adhesive had been pulled apart and no longer holding trim in place. Removed trim, removed inner section and replaced all adhesive. The SA claimed the way the adhesive was torn could not be covered under warranty. This gap pretty much existed from day one of ownership, but apparently when I tried to tighten up the existing hardware and push the trim into place, it tore the adhesive. Needless to say an hour of labor charged on a veh that had under 8k miles at the time was disappointing. There is no part number reference on invoice other then 1501 Misc diag. and/or repair. 163819 CBR |

I had same with my 2020 m40 I just after the garage delivered it rather than go to dealer and being a joiner I just squeezed in some clear Low Modulas Silicon held it tight with grey duct tape and left over night heldperfect.

I was thinking of doing that, instead of removing the whole piece just put a little silicon and leave it taped overnight.

I'd like to see about this as well. I've noticed this since day 1 of ownership. Not enough of a bother to bring it I. (Even though I work at the dealer). Just don't want anyone damaging anything. I want to look more into this repair and see what's involved. Hoping someone may have photos of the parts removed to really show the adhesive that's causing the issue

Ok here’s an update;
We took the piece down, it is held to the door by 1 Screw and the rest pins. However, the problem is that inside the painted piece is a plastic piece, that plastic piece is held to the painted one with double sided tape. The plastic piece inside is the one that holds on to the car by the pins and the screw. The issue happens because the piece bends a little bit when installed forcing the edge where the screw is to tear the double sided tape, and crates the gap between the two. An easy fix is to put some sort of silicone and bond it together overnight, or you can take the whole piece apart and replace all the tape, but we saw that unnecessary and much harder to do. |
