VIN or build date for 'new' timing chain / guides?
Looking for a ~'15 X3 & trying to avoid buying one susceptible to timing chain troubles. According to RealOEM, the chain itself was superseded to the newest part number Jan '15. The chain guides show as same p/n since Mar '11 but I don't necessarily believe it due to picture of replacements on https://bmwtechnician.com/2016/08/07...g-chain-issue/..
Does anyone know which vehicle VIN corresponds to the switch to later chain & guides? I'm guessing 2016's would be OK but they haven't started coming off lease in sufficient numbers to have a good selection yet. Most of the 2015's out there have seem to have 14 build dates. |

Based on RealOEM, you should be fine if it's a 01/2015 or newer production X3 since it will only show the revised part number for the timing chain versus looking at a 12/2014 production X3.
Personally picked up a 02/2015 production X3 N20 recently for the family and it's just as quiet as my 05/2015 328i N20. |
