CF steering wheels trim & paddles installed w/pics

Purchased off Ali Express vendor AGOZ Official store. $135 for the steering wheel trim and $35 for the paddles. Wanted the M logo and didn't want to pay the ridiculous prices for these items I've seen. Arrived two weeks sooner than projected, very good quality - probably the exact same quality as pieces they are 4-5x the price.

1. Disconnect the negative cable on the battery (I didn't know it was in the trunk in front of the spare tire). 10 mm socket.

2. Remove the airbag. Perforate the leather on the rear of the steering wheel behind the spokes, you'll feel a little divot in the leather. I used an allen wrench, stick it into the opening you created and toward the steering column to release the airbag on each side. Disconnect airbag harness and set the airbag aside.

3. Remove t-20 screws. One from the rear at the bottom of the steering wheel, one on either side for the paddles, 2 up near the top inside the airbag opening.

4. Disconnect paddle harness (little blue harness each side) and set paddles aside.

5. Remove one more t-20 screw each side on the rear of the spokes where the paddles were.

6. Pull trim away from the steering wheel.

7. Disconnect the purple harness to the heated wheel button (if so equipped).

8. Remove steering wheel buttons and heated wheel button. Three t-5 (I believe) each side and two on the heated wheel button.

9. Transfer everything over to the new trim and reverse the process.

Looks really good for the price paid. I honestly can't see paying any more for these items. Great fit & finish. And as always, most importantly, the wife is happy

Paddles aren't too bad of an install. Did you take the wheel off at all? I don't know if I've seen many people install the trim without taking off the wheel.

The paddles I ordered already had all the mechanical/electronic parts on them so I didn't have to swap over anything which made it easier. I got them on ebay for about $200.

No I didn't remove the wheel, no need to.

Thanks. Inspired me to add some to my Z06 as well. Have some custom pieces being made for that car, so it's nice to find high-quality inexpensive pieces for the X3.

I had to pull the trim today and readjust the right hand side buttons. The forward/back buttons were sticking. I loosened the screws that hold the buttons to the trim piece just a little bit & no more sticking. Just FYI.
