Watsup guys

Have a 2020 x3m with 25k miles. Pads are looking a little low. I have a service appointment next month and will be inquiring but I always like to hear what others have done.

Anyone know price to have dealers change pads? or both pads and rotors?

Any advice on sticking to oem pads ?

How long are your pads and rotors lasting?

Not sure if rotors need to be changed as i do not have any vibrations when braking but i know the dealer will say they do. I was told they do not cut M rotors so replacing would be on the expensive side.

Not looking to empty the bank on this so any advice would be appreciated.

I have no idea, but would like to hear the answers. Those rotors look huge and expensive. I quick google puts OEM pads and rotors (all four corners) at about $1.5k.

My rear pads were near minimum at 21k miles, rotors were still good though. The dealer should be able to give you an estimate on the parts and labor...but I would expect the rear pad service at the dealer to be in the $700-800 range.

They won't cut/turn the rotors because of the cross drilling.

There is no reason to replace the pads until your brake pad wear sensor trips, unless you are heading to the track or just want o have real piece of mind, change up brake pad feel, etc. Big red "brake" will illuminate near speedo cluster when it does trip. After it trips, you have at least few k miles before pad material is gone.

Should be able to get away with at least 1 full pad slap, if no vibrations are present.

Isweep 1500 pads is what I would go with on a daily for less dust, other oem pads.

AWESOME!! I was going to swap the pads out now but will wait for that warning. I usually swap them out when they visually get low but having at least a thousand miles after the light is great to know

Spot on. They quoted me $760 for front pads only. Told me my rotors were within spec. Their price for plugs was $8-900 I think.
I had several 1000 left on the pads but I couldn’t handle the dust anymore. I swapped to isweep 1500 and omg the difference is astounding. The brake feel is very similar; maybe a tad more bite. No more squealing after long highway stretches. And minimal dust. Now I don’t have to wipe down my front wheels every 100 miles

Rotor replacement can be dependent on a few factors...excessive runout, below minimum thickness, scoring or other uneven wear. So, there's no set interval on when you could expect to need them. Just have to keep an eye on them, I usually measure mine anytime I swap pads.

The minimum thickness should be stamped on the rotor somewhere, but I haven't really looked for it yet.

I am trying to avoid just swapping pads and then having the rotors go bad a few thousand miles after that. Bc then I will have to change rotors and pads again.

I was at 32k, but I do a ton of highway driving. I’ll often set cruise and then not brake for a while. The pads are more expensive than others I’ve seen, but IMO well worth it. I’m going to have to clean and pressure wash my driveway bc of all the brake dust from the stock pads.

I was recently quoted $2450 at BMW of SA for labor, front rotors x2, pads x1 & sensor kit.

Ultimate care plus is $700. If they go out before 36k miles seems like its a deal.

A lot of the older M guys buy aftermarket "flat" rotors or OE Alpina units and swap those in instead of the drilled OE units. Wonder if that's an option for us.


Drilled rotors look cool and all, but they're a waste most of the time and they create more dust.

I'm looking, so far cant find one that is not slotted or drilled. Spoke with my friend with the E63 M6 he gets his from germany, they're aftermarket but have the same warranty as oem. I went through the webpage he sent me but they dont have anything for the X series, mostly cars.

I wonder where does Alpina get theirs since they use flat rotors on all their cars. Seeing as how they're built on the same lines as the regular BMWs, I ask myself if BMW themselves source them but make them available only for Alpina cars...

I'm wondering if the TireRack has some non-drilled rotor options. I've heard from the grapevine that they're working with some new companies that actually make this option available for us now.

Try asking Zeckhausen racing, they don't list them but they would be a great resource to point you to information.

They were a great source back in 2004 when the Volvo S60R / V70R came out and we wanted rotors and pads.
They cross referenced and found pads and rotors, then they helped develop SS brake lines.
