New to me 2011 X3
A quick intro and a couple of questions. I just picked up a low mile fully loaded 2011 X3 35i for my wife (the 2013 M3 I got her new back in Jan is just too much car for her and not enough space...for sale officially next week).
2 weeks Questions: the M3 MPG is combined 15.8 from day 1 (mixed city/hwy). Terrible IMO. From everything I read on the X3 in the same mix I was expecting at LEAST 19MPG combined but so far it's barely15MPG and more like 10MPG in all city...what the hell?? Also...I know it's no M V-8 but the stock sound is really lacking. Is there an exhaust/tune for this model by someone reputable like Dinan? We have the Dinan cold air intake, stage 1 software and M-Performance exhaust on the M3 and it really woke the car up and sounds incredible to boot. I tried searching but couldn't come up with anything thanks in advance for your replies. |

Welcome to the X3 board. Check the X3 classified boards for a few mods that are available. You might be interested in this one:
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=866501 You gas mileage sounds crazy low. City driving I'm averaging 20 mpg and highway I get 26-28 mpg on my 35i. Is your wife sitting in gridlock traffic? |

Welcome to the board.
Your mpg results are crazy low. I was able to get 33mpg on a 700 miles trip driving at around 65mph (I know it is boring). My city driving gives me a 18mpg result. How do you drive your car? Cheers. |

Thanks guys. There must be something wrong as so far it's just my wife driving in D and not fast or aggressive at all. We'll take it in for a check and report back.

Are you using premium gas or regular? This could affect fuel economy.

Since we live in the same county, my driving is probably close to what you experience. On my 2011 28i, I average 23.5 in mixed driving. One thing that could be killing your miles/Gal. is driving up the hills to your house. You might be surprised how much it effects your miles/Gal. and brake wear.

City no more than 15mpg on my 35i and 26mpg on the highway. Mixed is 17-19 depending on the mix. I am very capable of getting no more than 10mpg

Premium fuel only...and while there are hills and an incline on our driveway it still seems impossible that the 4.0L M3 V8 is getting better fuel economy than the 3.0L 6 Turbo...can't be!

Maybe the air filter needs to be changed out. I can get 17 when I am trying to, but
I can also get 32 on the freeway on a long trip.
