X3 M40i hatch pops open by itself

I've read the threads and posts of this happeneing and I bought a key Fob cover hoping to solve the sensitive trunk button.. This solution did not work... The dealership seems to know nothing about reprogramming the ECU so that the opening process is 2 steps... Anybody have any input and weather the issue has definately pointed to the sensitive KEY FOB button?? Thanks.... I found the hatch open when the car was in the garage parked.... Here we go again...

rear hatch opening

I had the problem with my "16" X3. I had to take my keys out of my pocket when I shot pool. I have seem a video on Youtube using Bimmercode. Where you could disable the opening of the hatch function from the key fob when the vehicle is locked.

I used Bimmercode to program the hatch to NOT open unless there is a long press on the hatch button. You can actually set the number of seconds you have to press the hatch button before it opens. I programmed it to 2 seconds and it has not accidentally opened since.

This happened to me a couple of times.

So I programmed mine, through Idrive, to only allow the hatch to open when the car is unlocked. So I park it in the garage locked.

Bimmercode is the solution I used as well. Its one of several tweaks I made through bimmercode to make the car my own. I highly recommend getting to know what all is available there

The boot release 'accidentally' popping the boot is a total pain.

This car is the only one I have had this problem with (about 6-8 times in 3.5 years) but only a week ago my doorbell rang at about 11pm with a kind gent just asking me if I knew my tailgate was open ! Aside from the doorbell going that late giving me a coronary ... I was very grateful.

This happened with my first M4. Had $1200 worth of stuff stolen out of my trunk because of it. I assumed it would have been solved by now.
