1st CBS Appointment Question

My car just turned one, but I have lower miles than the norm (~7,500). I went for my first Condition Based Service yesterday, and all they changed was the oil. On my last X3 (2014) they would change the filters and wiper blades as well. I know the maintenance program doesn't cover as much as it used to (no wiper blades now) but the service center said the car will let me know when to change the filters (cabin and engine) too... is that what you all have experienced? I'm just not expecting the car to let me know when to change the filters.

BMW does have baseline CBS intervals for cabin and engine air filters but CBS will change the baseline based on other factors, such as "fuel consumption, high or low engine speeds, short or long-trip driving etc."

The SIB for '22 cars B00 02 21 Attachment 2 CBS intervals 12-21.pdf shows that the cabin filter should be changed every 2 years / 20000 miles. The engine air filter should be changed at 4 years / 40000 miles and every 2 years / 20000 miles thereafter.

I feel like the first engine air filter change is way too long. I would change my engine air filter every 10000 miles. It's a cheap and easy job anyway.

The SIB for '22 cars Attachment 3047185 shows that the cabin filter should be changed every 2 years / 20000 miles. The engine air filter should be changed at 4 years / 40000 miles and every 2 years / 20000 miles thereafter.

In your SIB there was no mention of changing the gearbox or diff etc fluids, unless you have a X3M etc. what are the service intervals for those in an 40i or 40d?

M40i follows the same interval as regular G01 30i. But I would change my transmission, tansfer case, rear diff fluids every 40k-50k miles. Not sure about front diff fluid yet...

Yea, I agree. There are 2 versions of the cabin air filter. The fine dust filter 64119382885 and the regular filter 64119382886. I think the fine dust filter is capable of reducing PM2.5 but it costs $74... Not sure if it's worth it.

And BTW, be careful when changing the cabin air filter. If installed incorrectly, the filter may pinch the fresh air flap causing a reduction of airflow. This SIB details how to change the filter properly. SIB 64 03 21 Airflow rate in the vehicle interior is too low.pdf

Both my X5 and X3 alerted me through the my BMW app that it was time to change the in carbon filter. The SA also read this stored on the key when I came in for oil changes. Took about a year and a half for both vehicles to give the alerts. Both covered for free.

Just curious, what actually was showing up on the idrive display as far as car saying what service is needed? Was it more than the oil change? Were you expecting more than the oil change because car said so?

It just said oil change. I forgot BMW doesn't change wiper blades under the service plan anymore, but figured they change filters annually and CBS wouldn't register those specifics since there's no such thing as an air filter dirt sensor lol. Maybe I just got used to changing the blades and filters every year myself on the old car and thought they used to do it as well.

Thank you! I will definitely be going for the fine dust filter.
