will do, as the challenge for me would be fitting. Would rather get BMW to supply and fit, as don't fancy taking dash apart and pulling out headunit, as costs will quickly escalate when I cock it up.

I don't think you'll find any BMW dealership that will fit it for you.

Have asked for clarification on part number from my dealer and will post here.
Assuming they can supply, will then ask about fitment

Neither had I! I have just canned Apple Music, and moving back to spotify, and get Amazon Music as part of Prime Membership.

Yes, you can play music etc via CarPlay and use BMW sat Nav, I do it all the time
How reliable is carplay Spotify? Does it always start playing automatically each time you get back in the car?

Will having CarPlay coded by the company linked in this thread cause any issues when it comes to service/update time?

You don’t really need to use the bmw built in nav if you have CarPlay as you can use the Apple interface and use google maps or waze.

If you do need to switch between Idrive and CarPlay it’s literally as simple as pressing a bmw icon in car play to get back to Idrive, and vice versa.

Only issue without the antenna is that I have to take my phone out my pocket or jacket each time I get into the car and place in the cup holder for carplay to work because of the WiFi/ Bluetooth signal, where as if I install the antenna I can keep the phone on me and the connection is more seamless when getting in and out the car... yeah I know, third world problems lol.

I’m planning on keeping the car for a while so anything to make my life a little easier

I just ask s the question as I didn’t think of this!... you can reload th CarPlay software with the initial code they send you to activate as it’s specific for each car so keep the emails from them if you do purchase.

I always look at directions in HUD, which I believe doesn't work with Carplay?

I think i'd just get one of those £12 antennas if i get carplay, i took the head unit out to fit my phone mount, it's easy enough.

Yes. You'd need to remove it before taking the car in for service otherwise if they update the car's software it'll break your iDrive.

CarPlay now supports 2nd and 3rd screens so HUD support is possible. BMW would need to update the car's software to support this which they are unlikely to do.

it'll be a feature for future BMWs I think.

Does your car have enhanced bluetooth? Without it your car won't have the wifi antenna from factory so I don't think you can get Carplay from BMW.

I have a code from the company that did my coding (ddcoding) so if/when BMW update and wipe CarPlay, the code will allow a free re-install

M140iguy said it will break idrive if it's installed when BMW update the car, so does it not need to be removed before going to the dealers?

^^This. Enhanced Bluetooth is coded in as part of CarPlay install and activation, not something you can get from BMW.

If you go onto the BMW Connected Store and type in your VIN, to establish if you can get from BMW or not

CarPlay option in iDrive only appears when your phone is in the car in central console, so unless you leave your phone there whilst in @ BMW it won't appear at all.

The update many things in idrive, such as gearbox, navigation etc etc but any of these won't necessarily wipe the CarPlay code, but not an expert as to what would.

I will be however ensuring obvious mods, such as Alpina dials aren't active when car goes in.

Also, given that service is only due in 05/2021, not something I need to worry too much about

The genuine WLAN antenna is £47 on ebay:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F263960760972

I'm currently chatting with Simon at Bavarian Coding about getting this done, he says definitely get the genuine one as aftermarket ones will through up error codes on diagnostics.

An ECU update would wipe CarPlay but not the fake FSC codes that have been injected. This is why navigation and other features won't work when BMW update the car. The codes will be rejected. They will try to sell you a new iDrive unit as the only solution.
In reality, it can be fixed with an FSC restore kit but BMW don't seem interested in helping out with that so it's down to you to sort it yourself.
BMW now block any of the previous USB activation methods so this won't work even if you have been given a file to reactivate CarPlay.

Is there no way to remove the FSC codes before taking the car into the dealer?
