2019 G01 X3 M-Sport Steering Wheel Swap

Hello,

I am new to this community. I own a 2019 G01 X3 x-drive. I am looking to swap out the standard steering wheel for a M-Sport.
I know this question has probably been ask a couple of times before.
I've been looking for an M-Sport wheel online and could not find the entire assembly. Most places sell individual parts.
I'm going to call the dealership as well but I'm assuming they will charge me over $2000 for it.
Does anyone know where can I buy the entire M-Sport Steering wheel assembly (wheel, airbags, shifters etc) so it's more a plug & play swap?

Thank You!

I'm also looking. Ebay, as scary as that sounds, seems to be the best bet I've found. Latvia sellers...I think they get a lot of junkers and totalled parts vehicles for cheap.

Yeah I checked ebay for a bit but did not see anything. How are you planning on swapping it out?

Process looks really simple. Airbag comes off with a screw driver through the wheel, few bolts and plugs and the new one goes back on. Wheel is keyed to the column so it can't go on wrong.

eBay can be a great choice. Main thing you need to really look out for us the airbag. You need to check which airbag you have (two stage or three stage, which either has 2 connectors or 3) and everything else will plug right in. I just searched for 1 minute and found 3 different wheels on eBay. Between $750-900 USD.

I've personally purchase things from overseas such as parts from Lithuania for my E39 and such.

I found a couple of ebay but the airbag assembly is not for US so it won't be a simple swap. It will require coding to make the airbag compatible and not error out.

I just just found this one. How do I guarantee that this will fit my car though?

Well...you'd have to do a bit of research. They do list the part numbers which can be checked against realoem

It's fairly straight forward for my vehicle. I have heated steering wheel and none of the driver assist functions so I need a heated wheel w/ just the set button (didn't want the LIM button) and US airbag. This is the exact one I would be ordering for me.

Do you what the custom charges, Import Duties etc. are when you order stuff from Europe?

I just paid whatever the shipping was on the eBay listing. It wasn't too much and I had no issues

This is the airbag I have. The service tech said that it's a 2 stage airbag. I was surprised because I thought all US versions have 3 stage. Now I'm not sure whether the M wheel that I am looking at will fit or not since it has it is a 3 stage US variant.

what are your impressions? Aside from aesthetic appeal does the additional thickness/heft improve the experience?

I love it. I have always been a fan of the M - Sport wheel specially because of the thickness. I don't like the standard skinny steering wheel.

Mind sharing where you ended up sourcing and what you paid in total for the swap? Seems like this is becoming more affordable.

I got it from ebay for $1190 with free shipping. The shipping was super fast. I was delivered within 4 days from Europe. I went to a local bmw servicer center and they charged $199 to swap it out. So all in all I paid $1390

So for a total of $1,390 you got everything we need in the US? That steering wheel came with the US airbag?

Yes, it was a US version steering wheel complete with airbag. It was a plug and play. No coding required.

What a bargain! When I contacted GETBMWPARTS.COM when our 2018 M40i was new...……….the new wheel with all the needed parts was going to be a bit over $3,000!
