I wish I was only be quoted $300!
Let us know how it works out, the problem seems to be getting someone to program it.

I thought I read somewhere if you hold the key next to the steering column it would automatically pair to the car. Perhaps that only applies to the newer models.

There has got to be more to it than that. If not I will be flying across the pond to collect myself a new US spec X3 gasoline engined vehicle. We only have Diesel F25s in the UK.

Programing is probably the wrong term, I believe it has to somehow be authorized/linked before it can be programmed.

I've heard a number of non compatible issues with cheap aftermarket fobs.
The car and BMW NA have to recognize the FOB, and you know an outsiderwill be unliked.

i bought a #3 fob from our local BMW . . .think it was $275 comes programmed by BMW ( you gave vin when ordered ).
there was nothing else to be done.

Have to use the spare 2 times a year so X3 will continue to recognize the FOB.
You can get a FOB from any BMW store. If vehicle is currently in history, all they need is VIN.
