The New Exhaust is On!!

Well this past weekend I had a few friends over to help install the Remus Exhaust kit that I got for the X3. It was pretty simple to install, and the most time consuming parts were just cutting the rear valence, and getting all the tips lined up right. The tips I chose for it was the Akrapovic tips, and since I got them off ebay, I have no idea if they are legit but they look really good. But managed to get a quick video and some pics. The phone mic doesnt really capture the sound that well but gives you an idea.

I got it from a local shop here in Edmonton, I knew one of the people there so they gave me a decent price on it, and happily they let me order it without tips as I wanted the Akrapovic ones instead of the Remus ones.

I managed to get the muffler by itself for around $1000 CDN, but that was likely a friends deal. Worked out even better since the seller for the tips screwed up and then dissapeared on ebay so ebay refunded me the money for the tips. And Im hoping to get a video of it under load accelerating, it stays relatively mild when its not under load and you just give it a quick rev.

Can you tell us more about the valence cutting? I'm about to try something similar but with X6 tips.

The Remus kit actually comes with a template that you can line up to tell you where to cut. My friend who is a lot more steady with a dremel cut it out. He gave some room for the line at first then just used a sanding drum bit to get it closer and finish things off. Its pretty simple to cut as its all just plastic and trims easily.

I had actually thought about trying to get ahold of a set of the new X3m tips, but didnt want to know what the dealer would want for them.

I find that cold start is loud, but when its not under load it stays relatively quiet. Under load it gets a bit louder and makes a kinda whooshing noise when you really get on it and into higher rpm. Also found it drones a little bit at highway speeds. Overall I like it, Id be curious to hear it with a resonator delete. Maybe that would change things enough to get rid of the drone on the highway.
