Install pipes and tips and align until it's to your liking.

Check for leaks.

Done without a lift or a jack.
What size were the exhaust tips you added?

you leave the stock exhaust on the car, make a Y pipe and then put the cut-out valve somewhere before the muffler.

you have 3 main operating method :

- vacuum
- electric motor (remote)
- manual ( cable ).

at the end, you make noise (potentially power) when its time to make noise, and get OEM noise level when its time to keep it quiet.

for the x3 , I would be easy to route the cut-out pipe to a 2nd set of dual exhaust tip on the passenger side.
