Parking brake goes on/off after parking

Hi,

Once every few weeks my automatic parking brake goes on and off after switching off the car.

Is this just to check if the parking brake is still working because i never use it?
Is it to wind the brake up for good functioning after drinving some km's?

Anybody else seen this before?
Parking brake is working fine other than the sudden on/off after switching off the car.

I rarely use the automatic brake. I much prefer to be in direct control. However I suggest you turn off the automatic brake and leave it off for a few miles /days and see what happens. Just use the manual parking brake and the foot brake as usual. If all OK then turn the auto brake on and test it on a quiet road and see how it performs, if you have trouble with it then you will need to visit a dealer or BMW specialist.

Is it some strange option that can be turned on and off, or something coded in for say Europe if parking on a hill is detected?

I use mine but it's habit after SO many years owning a manual and pulling the parking brake.

Auto parking brake is off, what I mean with auto is that I don’t have an handle to pull, just pressing a button.
Everything functions well, did only once used the parking brake in 1,5 years.
Can’t see a coding option for this.

Unless you're parking on a dead flat ground, I recommend using the parking brake before putting the trans in park and releasing the foot brake to reduce the risk of wear/damage to the trans parking pawl
