Fuel Economy
Just curious what people are getting for fuel economy. I am averaging 11.4 so far on my LCI X4MC. Have been in comfort mode for most of it, with a few tests of the various sport modes. Have only driven about 100 miles since picking her up yesterday, and I'm respecting the break-in period. I previous read about people getting high teens and low-mid twenties. My average in my M40i was around 17, was thinking maybe I could get about 13-14 in the M.

Adaptations I think are like 250Miles so a new car will be horrible with efficiency. I get about 15 city and 22 highway.

13 MPG average. What kills the mileage is around town driving. Not sure if the 22s have it, but on my 20 there is a fuel consumption gauge if you press the button on the stalk. Even slowly starting out from a stop the mileage is abysmal.
It didn't seem to matter if I drove fast or slow. What makes a difference is highway time. |

On my '22 X4Mc, I'm getting about 13.7 L/100km (17 US MPG) currently on the first two tanks with mostly city driving (I track on Fuelly)
When there isn't too much traffic, the trip computer shows 12 L/100km (19-20 US MPG) city driving. |

Fuel mileage should improve a bit after break-in. 70 mph cruise seems best for me @ 23 mpg. I rarely fight traffic any more so I can stay in high teens average. My recent 680 mile trip averaged 18 with a lot of hard mountain running (including 55 miles on the Tail of the Dragon in 2nd/3rd/4th in sport modes)!

I notice my car is holding the lower gears, and the RPMs very high, 5-6K RPM, especially when in sport mode. It is slow to shift to the next gear. Could explain my 11mpg that is so far off from what many are reporting in this thread. This is my first M car so I don't know if that is normal. Previous car was the M40i and it would only hold gears like this if I were in manual mode.

I should also note that I'm a spirited driver the majority of the time, no pussy footing around here especially in the summer Winter driving is a bit different, just staying warm and getting to my destination. Last edited by 2kaccordocoupe; 10-25-2021 at 02:14 PM.. |

X3MC Gas Mileage
first, as soon as the full tank of gas that was given to you is empty, fill up with Shell 93 Nitro Plus. It will make a difference and if you look inside the gas door, it says "BMW M recommends Shell 93."
Next what I've learned after 2 X3M's is to drive in Sport Plus all the time unless cruising on the highway then use Efficient. I beat the snots out of my first X3M before the Break-in-Service and on my driving, mostly highway, I was getting high 15's MPG. I broke in my second X3M by the book and same driving I'm getting close to 19 MPG. Don't know if that's why the better gas mileage but that's what I'm getting. |

Your 8-Speed Automatic
also Brendan, the transmission is one that is half automatic half stick. Even though it's an automatic there are times when you have to shift it, like when it holds a gear like you said.
