I am considering F10 M5 callipers. Good bit cheaper and more readily available. They seem like they will fit. Will prob still require adapters I guess

Adapter for sure .. F10 M5 can be a good idea .
On ebay you can find F90 caliper at 1.300 EUR a good price . The difference between f10 and F90 will be 200 EUR non more I guess .

I think you are right. Did some searching F10 and F90 no real difference in price. Worth going F90 as newer.

I know I am late to this thread, but I would have suggested a simple and cheap upgrade: Using the factory brake cooling duct, fit a hose to direct the air straight to the center of the hub, where the brake discs draws air.

The factory duct just lets air into the wheel well. Forcing the air directly to the place where it's needed could have solved the heat problem.

Have you seen the size of the stock calipers and pads. Very poor for a big heavy M car

I agree. Especially for a tuned heavy car with 700 hp. This is why I bought those.

I was reading a lot of track guys do this. I'm not sure why BMW didn't do it as it is a pretty easy design.

I could have sworn my E46 M3 had this but not really sure.

Doing air ducts Would absolutely help. But honestly after finally taking my X3M to the Tail Of the Dragon and really REALLY pushing the brakes hard. I have to say these brakes do a fantastic job handling the abuse.

If you are over heating the brakes then your are simply braking too soft for too long. Harder, sharper braking will help prevent overheating.

I always teach my friends and those who are new to mountain driving to brake with their left foot. Because by nature we brake gently and smoothly with the right foot and slamming the brakes is not natural and as a result of softer braking tons of heat gets built up.

I agree with you when you are driving on a track .
On mountain road you can choose to drive in sporty way and unfortunately on the road there are other cars , so isn't easy to use the left foot and you have to brake gently and smoothly many time .
For me is very difficult try to find the right compromise .
Today with the new calipers after 2.000 Km the brake look good with no issue .
it's a coincidence or the new M3/M4 are aquipped with 6 piston stock calipers ? The current model come with 4 piston stock calipers + 10.000 USD for carbon option .
Same engine less weight better brakes ... Sound strange to me .
