Odd revs

Moring,

Just completed a nice trip to France and it was the first long-distance driving in our X4MC. Generally, superb, just brilliant fun all the way. What a car.

Now then, an odd problem which I noticed a few times before this trip. Perhaps it's not a problem at all, so I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues. On a lovely clear, flat road, I gunned it. Just for a few seconds, just for the fun. It seemed to hold in 3rd, or even 2nd gear, for what seemed like a few seconds before dropping down and calming itself down from it's shouting. Definitely odd as if I were changing manually, I'd have changed gear way before. It seems to happen if I surprise it and boot it. It's not right, not right at all. It sounds like when you selected the wrong gear manually back in the learner driver days and for a few seconds it shouts before you get the right gear.

Anyone had similar?

That happens to me when I drop the pedal for a few seconds. It seems like it's holding the gear in anticipation for more throttle input to maximize performance. Mine also settles after a second or two when it realizes I want to drive civilly again. Just my two cents!

That's absolutely normal. It just keeps the rpms high in case you just briefly went off the gas pedal and will continue gunning momentarily. Was it in D3 transmission mode? If you don't like it, switch to D2 or D1.

Normal behaviour MDCT does it as well, you've called for more so it gives you more and then waits to see if you still want more.

Yep sounds normal. Like Alex said depends on which mode you’re in as D3 will hold them often and long.

I only use D3 when I’m Ready for stuff to go down driving through the mountains, spirited highway driving. Just normal tooling around town I use D2. I will sometimes throw it in D1 as I drove the 2 miles though my neighborhood to keep rpms low and let things cool down.

I actually really like this feature. It’s almost as if the car has a mind of its own and can predict when you want to gun it.

I’m super impressed with both the transmission and engine.m in this vehicle.

Yep, I get this too.

Usually pulling onto the main road out of the estate I live on. Usually a busy road, 30mph limit but often have to pull out and get to 30mph quickly. Often leaves the revs high, waits a bit then settles down.

Great. Thanks for the replies, makes sense now. I tend to keep it in D1. For no particular reason.
