x3mc vs tuned 2018 x3 m40i

I was fairly excited about getting a new car but the more I look the less enthused I get.

I was going to get a 2022 x3m. Maybe a 2021. I guess I’ve been out of the loop. I got a downpipe, chargepipes and a bm tune in 2020 and never really kept up with things and Im reading all newer bmw have locked ecu now so no tuning, without shipping your ecu overseas or whatever. I don’t see myself ever doing that…

So I’m wondering how spicy will say the 2022 x3mc feel vs what I’m already driving? I feel like the tune made of huge difference in my car. I will say I did 80k miles tuned and at points drove it pretty hard so I’m sure anything would feel faster than my m40i.

Can you even delete a downpipe cel on newer bmws?

I’m in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma so it’s gonna be 91oct for sure as well.

Wondering if I should be considering say a 2020 x3m instead or a x5 m50i instead? I hear they have a lot of reliability issues tho. I’m 2 hours from either dealership in Oklahoma.

It seems I’d want a 2024 x5 m60i for the new power plant but its out of my budget. A 2019-2021 x3m would be almost identical to what I’ve been driving for 3 yr 80k miles atleast interior wise. I guess with a 2021 I’d atleast get the newer gauge cluster.

I have 10k in equity. I can trade or I have outright offers as well. I have 10-15 down max. 5k for fees. 1k per month max.

I can also wait 6-12 months. I just hit 102k miles so not super urgent to trade today I’m just over this car. The car wash here is terrible so it’s only hand washing and I just don’t love this car enough to do that anymore.

A lot of x3mc owners here obviously. I just wanted to see how y’all felt.

Thanks.

I'm guessing you're hitting around 400hp with the BM tune so moving to an X3M should give you an appreciable boost in power and moving to an LCI will yield a noticeable difference in interior accoutrements. I think the best advice that anyone would give is to try lining up a test drive. Since the dealership is 2 hours away maybe find a friendly member here who lives in the area that is willing to let you drive their car?
