I'm starting to agree that it could be a coding change from the mid April change of the badges, as well as a geographical feature.

We need sample pics from forum members with early builds vs later builds to compare. I doubt it would be different between the 30i and m40i, but I guess there is that possibility too.

Mine is a 30i 3/18 build and I have full red gauges on sport. This is my vehicle instrument cluster in sport mode.

Found this image posted in 16 October 2017 so still think it is M40i only thing as seeing plenty of other versions with red sport mode but if you have a M40i with red dials please let us know

Interesting. Mine is also 3/18 build. But Australian and 30i.

Btw ISTEP made no difference. Factory was 17-11-xxx and it is now on 18-7-xxx and display is same.

As requested - Default Instrument Cluster Views of our 2018 G01 X3 M40i (Build Oct 2017) on the right, 2019 G01 X3 M40i (Build Aug 2018) on the left, just taken.

Note as we do not have Adaptive on the '18, I included the 4th view in the column as the Sport with headlights on, showing it doesn't alter the lighting.

So from what I can see, it does appear the new Sport view does not have the red 'highway' as our '18 has, but otherwise appears identical.

Wtf what a cluster (pun intended) fu**. '18s don't get M Sport Wheel but get red dials/lanes whatever and '19s get the wheel but no red dials. Like I said before what BMW giveth with one hand they taketh with the other.

I like the red. Hope my 2019 M40 can be coded to have it.

I spent a few hours looking at the gauges in sport mode and edited the settings so they look the same as comfort. For whatever reason, I just did not like the default look in sport or the large Helvetica lettering. Looks like they designed it in PowerPoint or something.

Just went out to take a few more images in Sport Plus with and without lights. Same as Sport on our G01s. I don't believe we've ever done anything to change these settings so I think these are the defaults, but I could be wrong. As skier219 indicated the settings can be edited, perhaps the other vehicles have had such actions performed.

Yeah, well seeing how you can do THIS with some basic coding, I wouldn't be surprised if there were other flavors available. I don't have the time or will to dig into it at the moment but maybe someone else can.

My 2018 x30i looks like that, too (early April build). I wonder if this is some weird difference between the x30i and M40i?

If anyone has coding capabilities, look at:

DKOMBI2, expert mode, 3000 configuration

This is where you enable Alpina blue mode as above, maybe some adjustments or clues there for the red sport mode.

Glad I am not going crazy. The car I test drove (xdrive30i, not m-sport) had red in sport mode. My car (xdrive30i, m-sport) has the white...
