We're really not performance drivers do were fine with the base engine and w/o the variable suspension. But we do enjoy our cabin tech. I'm over-weight and generally don't enjoy heavily bolstered seats, so we went with the ventilated seats, but comments here have me nervous. I'm going to try and get back to the dealer and spend some time in both seats before our vehicle goes to build. It's hard to judge comfort on a short test drive. Our order got placed today 10/22 and was promised for 11/20.

Wow, that was fast!! Mine's "dispatched from factory" (a step after awaiting carrier assignment), but I'm thinking I still have to wait a couple of weeks since I'm in California. It's gotta take the train all the way across to Oxnard, then sit there waiting for a truck to haul it up to the bay area. Congrats! Let's see some pics!

X3 M40i build questions

Building a custom 2020 x3 m40.

Do I have this correct:

Premium Pack+Parking Pack+ambient lighting+ FR heated= $3,750

Exec+ FR heated= $5,150

The only difference for the extra $1,400 is gesture control? I don't see the value.

The other question is driving assistant plus (the only feature I like is the adaptive cruise) and the active m diff. Thoughts on these?

Brushed aluminum vs. aluminum rhombicle vs. carbon fiber with cognac leather?

I definitely went for adaptive cruise (used to be a standalone option but oh well) for the stop and go feature since I live in an urban area and I'm guessing that feature will take all stress out of highway stop and go traffic. I'm currently driving a manual so it'll be a lot less work out of me. I would not buy any brand new car in 2019 without that feature unless it was a manual.

Oddly enough, I should be picking up my brushed aluminum + Cognac X3 some time in the next 2 weeks (it's already "at the port" in Oxnard). I haven't seen even pictures of this combo but I'm excited! I was really only between brushed aluminum and the lighter wood, but I figured I'd go for the sportier look (currently I have Saddle Brown + wood (Dark Burl Walnut I believe)). I can post pics of mine once I have it if you want. Personally I'm brushed >> rhombicle and I don't think carbon fiber would look good with Cognac.

New build

Replacing my '18 440 X-drive vert with a 2020 X3 M40. Found a dealer with an allocation that was still in 112 so away we go:
• Alpine White
• Cognac leather
• Carbon Fiber trim
• Executive pkg
• Adaptive M suspension
• Acoustic glass
• Rear manual side window shades
• Harmon Kardon
• 19" summer tires

The acoustic glass is a P1 option, so the car immediately received a production number. Chose 19" wheels; the runflats will be immediately ditched and 19" Nokian Hakka R3 snow tires will be installed before delivery. In the next few months I'll find some staggered 20's I like and build-up a set of summer wheels. I'm hoping the car hits the dealer around Thanksgiving; if BMW offers their on again/off again Holiday incentives I can take advantage of that as well as the great deal I received.

The vert had a Dinan tuner and went like stink, hopefully the X3 with 2020's additional power is close to the Dinan. We'll see if Dinan introduces a tuner for 2020 X3 M40; if so that will be next

I'm hoping you're wrong, but I haven't seen this combination so fingers crossed - see the post below yours

Vernasca leather is no charge with Executive, but is not included in Premium.

Ah ha. The leather. So, exec is actually $50 cheaper than premium+ leather + heated FR+ ambient lighting.

Only way to save there is sensatec.

I think cognac with carbon fiber would look good. But carbon fiber just disappeared from the US configurator so there must be a shortage. Given that it’s a new option I haven’t seen any pictures. I assume it will be glossy and finger print prone.

I guess you get the gesture control too, but on the loaner 540 I had for a few days gesture made me crazy... so I turned it off. I'd pay zero extra for it.

Yea I imagine gesture control is gimmicky. But it’s actually cheaper to have gesture control and exec is actually a bit cheaper than premium with leather, ambient, and parking package.

Any other Canadians try the BMWNA phone system (1-800-831-1117 ) for tracking production? It appears to give valid status for my car (a week 43 build which is now "in transit"). I'd previously read and been told there was no way for Canadians to track production, other than pestering the dealer....

Adaptive Cruise is awesome, I had it on an Audi A6 I ordered back in 2014. The only downside was if the sensors filled with slop in the winter and the cost for an alignment! (that was over $600 for an alignment - had to re-align the sensors). That said, we elected to skip it on the 540 and x3 we just ordered.

2020 X3 M40i Carbon Fiber trim?

Was just building out the 2020 X3 M40i and I noticed that the carbon fiber trim option is not available for this model but is for the xDrive30i. Any ideas on why they would have removed it?

Maybe it comes standard now?

Didn't see that option not to choose any trim if that was the case.

It might be a SNAFU with the online configurator; wouldn't be the first time (or the tenth)

Still waiting to take that nice long ride up to a more scenic locale & take some proper photos, but here's a couple I took today. Apparently I have the opposite instincts of everyone else when it came to choosing seats & trim, but I really like the contrast of the carbon fiber against the oyster
