Porsche Macan or X3?
The lease is up next month on my wife's Audi A6.
She's wanting to get into a Mid-size SUV........ So far we looked at the Macan (Non-S), X2 & X3, and the Infinity Q50. For her I was kinda diggin' the Q50 with all the techy creature comforts. She like the Macan (Cause its a Porsche) Funny, Any thoughts?................... |

Check out the XC60 too since, I assume, wife wants functional and nice place to be versus priority on performance.

My son just picked up a Macan, I it is a bit tight inside, but you can not beat the fit and finish and even for those unaccustomed to spirited drives that car is a blast, my x5 is not even close

Land Rover ought to be on the list... If you can put up with BMW then Land Rover will be easy.

I didn't like the Macan for the space inside and cargo room. It's like a safari Porsche 911 with 4 doors.

I'm sorry, but there's nothing "that great" about a non-S model Porsche Macan. It's still using the ubiquitous, and (IMHO from first-hand experience) troublesome 2.0L Volkswagen TFSI engine that's really not a great engine. Now those S models on the other hand....wow!
Also to the OP, are you talking about an Infiniti QX50, not the Q50? The Q50 is the sedan; QX50 is the distinctly-styled CUV they just released with a great engine, wonky CVT transmission, and 2008-era Nissan/Infiniti navigation graphics. |

We had a Porsche previously and went to the Macan launch party. We later seriously considered one but found the rear cargo and rear seats to tight to justify the purchase. It is a great vehicle, finish is impeccable and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better driving experience in a suv but the new x3 closed that gap greatly. I’m very happy with the decision to get the new x3.

If your wife loves and is accustom to the Audi Infotainment system, a Macan is absolutely a no brainer. (Personally I prefer BMW over anything by VW.) I see so many chicks driving the Macan... which has somehow become the new SUV/SAV/CUV of choice - a place once held by the Lexus RX. (IMO)

I totally agree w/ RCtennis Quote:
Tru Dat - Infiniti. WTF is up w/ them? I like the looks of the '19 QX50. Spent a week behind the wheel of 2018 QX50 on the coast of CA last fall, great engine - but the WORST Infotainment system of any. Anyone coming from an Audi or BMW would be in pure hell w/ that shit. (IMO) Quote:

On pure drivability & perceived build quality, I would have gone the Macan although at least the "S".
The X3 was sort of my Macan substitute as it also had all the inside and cargo space we wanted and still a good degree of drivability that didn't seem to exist in all the others. |

The sweet point to own Macan is to get GTS or Turbo model with most Porsche performance features opt'd, or else a well-equipped M40i is cheaper and better. If you cannot wait for the upcoming facelift of Macan, SQ5 is not a bad choice since you are driving an Audi now. I would suggest passing Macan base, and choosing from X3 x30i and GLC400W4. Both are good for having the same rear-wheel-bias AWD system. |

I'm clearly in the minority here but all I will say to the OP is: Drive the Macan thoroughly before making a decision.
I test drove a Macan GTS and frankly I couldn't abide the transmission or torque curve of the engine. I expected it to pull strongly from low revs and whether it was the engine or transmission I don't know, when I put my foot down it felt like there was a rubber band connecting the pedal to the engine. Now I'm not speaking to handling or fit and finish or even top end power, just how the engine pulled from low revs. My X3 M40i is markedly different (i.e. it pulls strongly and smoothly when I put my foot in it). Besides, the Porsche "dealer network" where I live is abysmal. But that is unrelated to my feelings about how the Macan performed. |

This general topic has been discussed before. Here is the link to the thread.
https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...1477480&page=2 I will quote my 2 cents from there as my opinion remains the same. Quote:

To get equivalent/ better speed, you need Macan Turbo. I priced one out with similar options to my $68k BMW build, was $108k. Good grief. I love the Porsche fit and finish - it's pretty awesome, but price too high for me. I received almost $10 off MSRP, and still, at <$60k, it seems alot for a DD.
Money aside; I find the M40i to be a good, comfortable, fast SUV with a factory tow hitch. That's what I need. Macan is closer to AWD sport sedan than an SUV. IMHO. |

Facelift is on the way with panamera infotainment.....strong proposition very tempted, competition have really upped their game in the infotainment area, don’t consider idrive the class leader anymore.

If everything stacked up equally, sure, take the saving. If the Macan was the best fit and in budget, then you take the Macan. Many people, including me, will have directly compared these two ranges with the genuine intention of taking whichever one they decided they liked best. |
