I know it's a concept but is that front grille functional? Would that contribute to heading in a direction that undermines generations of BMW and their iconic twin kidney grilles? Would love to hear the design reasons for this departure and why the design language within BMW is so conceptually scattered. Compared to i Vision Dynamics, maybe the interior of the grille should have been the same color as the body. That front end at the grille looks like air will hit it like a brick wall and not be very aerodynamic. I will leave that and what if renderings to others.

I will admit it looks good overall but just doesn't seem / feel right. I prefer the massive, over-sized twin kidney grilles on the X7 to this. Just my 2 cents.

Also wondering if the side breathers are active.

Such wishful and uninformed thinking sounds suspiciously like... well... a KIA driver.

Please go follow your heart as we BMW enthusiasts will continue to move forward.
Actually you have it backward. We are all BMW people and you should go hang on the Kia's forums.

Does Kia have a forum?
Dude, I've been in BMWs for over 40 years now going from the backseat to the drivers seat in That time. Sure, mom always had a Volvo diesel until finally making the switch, but whatever.

This and a couple of Porsche 911 forums are the only places you find me since I'm an owner.

Like I stated, anyone who can't tell the difference between a BMW and a Kia isn't someone who is in my circle to begin with. My housekeeper doesn't even drive a Kia. Just facts.

Again, the truck looks just fine. My only criticism is the range and in the future, the price could be an issue.

I expect they might tone it down for production.

Don't think so.
The front charge port is clearly not for CCS (fast charger), so it seems they put the slow home charging port in front and fast charging port at the back.

Makes some sense, as it will be quicker to insert the charger at home, but while at a CCS station you don't need to park faced against the actual charger (like a Leaf).
Well the front charge door looks stupid they should have just used the rear door and called it a day.

So this electrified X3 will compete against the Audi e-tron quattro and the Mercedes EQ SUV which are completely standalone electric models built from the ground up (like the i3 and i8)?

The Jag like the rest of its products will spend more time in the garage with 'design characteristics' than it will on the road!
Maybe without the IC components it will reduce the problems experienced by the rest of their models? I'm sure the drivetrain components will be outsourced after all.

With the new US-administration promising to punish especially the Germans in an hostile manner, no wonder BMW is investing their money somewhere else.

Part of BMW's new design strategy i.e. "fewer but sharper lines."

A lot of the problems are electrical and electrical management systems. A neighbour had their velar for two weeks it's now with JLR and has been for 4wks trying to solve electrical issues to say they are pissed is an understatement and the service they are getting is dire.

Our company accountant bought a brand new Fpace and that has been a nightmare for him too he bought an Fpace but instead of that he's just got a diesel low spec XF loaner which he's done more miles in than the car he wanted & bought.

I was wondering this too, I wonder if less people would cry Kia if the grill was more like the iVision Dynamic Concept (i4), without the chrome outline and instead blue with the interior of the grill the same color as the body of the car.

Maybe BMW have actually listened and read all the complaints towards how different the i3 was? They got bashed for making something modern and new. Then the rage is «why can't BMW make a EV that Looks like a normal car, look at Tesla bla bla».
Next time they draw up a full EV, they just use a normal boring excisting chassi. And then we complain about it beeing to normal, not EV like. We should all STFU and let BMW do what they Did best, make great looking cars. The 8 is looking awsome though.

Why do these electric cars even need front grills? Especially if there are non-functional. Brand resemblance I guess, but they need to be executed way better.

Function over form. I don't like unnecessary or fake anything on vehicles, especially faux air intakes.

Agreed

Tesla nails it when it comes to no front grill
