The shell is on the outside per the website. I thought it needed to have crumple zones to absorb energy during a collision so energy is not transferred to the occupants. Will have to see if this passes NHTSA safety crash testing or IIHS.

I think the shell was designed in mind due to ICE cars keying Tesla's. Now at least you won't see the damage now

Would be great to buy one, only to really really beat on it. Tow horse trailers with it, fifth wheels, strap a snow plow on the front, lift it and put 37s on it on 22" wheels.
It's got to be the dumbest, ugliest f'in vehicle I have ever seen. But people will buy it, because in this day and age, the dumber something is, the better it seems. |

I think it'll do well based on the nostalgia factor alone.

I'm not sure the mainstream media joking about the bullet proof glass breaking has ever seen how ballistic glass works. It's never inch thick synthetic diamond or whatever they expected that doesn't even scratch. It's multilayer material designed to absorb and distribute the energy and prevent the round from going all the way through.

So this is the pricing winner compared to the Rivian pickup which starts at $69K and has a $1000 deposit. The Tesla top model costs $69K with more range and faster acceleration than the top model Rivian which likely costs six figures. Also Tesla has $100 deposit. They are trying to kill Rivian on price so Rivian will have to get more investment $$ to lower their price and operate at a loss for several years to keep up. Faraday Future and Lucid Motors might as well file for bankruptcy.

I love my M3 and will be keeping it, but I ordered one of these. It's a very utilitarian vehicle that's fast as shit, can go off-road, may have the ability to regenerate 30-45 miles a day with a solar setup (Elon tweeted this as a possibility), and I can drive my Ducati up the back of it. Yeah the design is polarizing, but given it's not body on frame, it's an exoskeleton, it was necessary from an engineering perspective for rigidity.
I applaud Tesla for being creative and pushing accepted norms outside of (clearly) most people's comfort zone. Safety is a valid concern and I'm curious how the testing goes by NHTSA. |

As if the masses have spoken. Reportedly Elon lost $770 Million after this debut

The $100 deposit is a smart move to illicit investor funding by showing the quantity of orders. Tesla live and breath on investments as they barely post profits since inception. |
