There should be much less hesitation with transmission in S. And even less with driving mode in Sport and Transmission in S. Driving mode alone in Sport, at least in the 3 and 4 series doesn't impact transmission.

1. The autozoom feature during navigation is awful. It zooms out way to far. I've had to leave it in manual zoom. Hopefully Bmw fixes this in an update.

2. Can't receive text in a $60,000 vehicle??? I've read that this can easily be enabled but with so many other cars that do this including my previous, this should be standard.

3. Wind noise seems to be excessive.

4. No track forward or reverse on the steering wheel. This should be on every wheel. Luckily I was able to assign a gesture to do this.

5. No spare really limits my choice of tires when they need to be replaced. Will have to stick with rft's.

6. No remote start feature. Could have at least given the ability to turn on the rear defrost, heated seated and heated steering wheel from the app.

Now the list of things I love would be obnoxiously long so I'll end it here. What's on your hate list?
So far only complaint is front is bit long so taking tight turns or parking I have to rely on front sensor.

And Bluetooth sometimes just disconnects for some reason and music stops playing

Not knowing the actual name for it ... I'll call them the seat wings that flare out about your knee area. I know why they decided to design and make these seats for the car, but the engineer needs to be shot.

While on my last trip, we drove all night before the first stop. Have done this several time over the years and with several vehicles. Even stopping for fuel and a few stretch stops, we starting getting out of the car like cripples.

Seem the parts of the seats mentioned above are quite firm and places enough pressure on the side of your legs that decreases the blood flow, then slight loss of feeling. Granted it was only a 4.900 mile trip in 3 weeks, but this was the only hell we had. Got to the point we have to stretch every 100 to 150 miles just to keep comfortable.

If the seats don't soften or ease up soon, we might be trading it in for another car .. at another manufacture.

Try to reposition your seat - put it in a more upright position. Some people reported, that that helped them.

I've tried every possible positioning of the driver AND passenger seats. I just turned it in for my free oil change and went through this with the dealership in case I missed one thing. I didn't.

Short trips are fine ... long trips are *$)^*

Everything else, the thoughts I have of the car is positive. But if I can't be somewhat comfortable for a decent length of time, isn't the car useless ?

I have one last trip planned for this year. It's only a thousand miles each way. This may be the determining factor.

The door opening steps and it’s angle, especially the rear doors.
It is either a “squeeze to get in” or a “wreck the next car’s paintwork”.
Not asking for infinite steps, just having another step in between the existing 2 would help a lot with getting kids into the car at tight parking spots

X3 M40i ... 1500 miles ... not one hint of a pop or bang. Total silence apart from normal engine noise.

I know the PPF makes a difference but has the EU really made BMW map out all the noise ?

I'm not one for the artificial noises modern cars have mapped in but have noticed there is nowt coming out of mine ... low miles I know ... but nowt !!

Just picked up our M40i to find out there is no power adjust for the steering column. IMHO, that really restricts the usefulness of the customization for each driver. My eight year old Infiniti has it, the Audi (that I was cross shopping) has it but my CA said only on the X5 and above. Shocked and disappointed.

Anyone find that the door rarely stays open?

And, I agree that the seats are bad. I have a cushion that I have to use. Today, I said "I am going to try again...". Honestly, after driving home without, my back just hurts...an hour later (now) and I still feel a pain in the back. Tomorrow, back to using the cushion.

Hi,
We have two main niggles with our M40i - as follows:-
1) Seat comfort - we have the ventilated seats and they are both too flat and too hard!
2) Seat position memory - if I have been driving the car with my key & seat settings and my wife then wants to drive the car with her key - she must only unlock the car with the drivers door first.
If she unlocks the passenger side first (to put her handbag and stuff on the passenger seat) then the seat and other settings remain in my position!

Cheers
Steve

Don’t you just open all doors at once? That sets the seat position ok for us.

I’m pretty sure our X3 doors have infinite steps.

I do love my M40i but the build quality isn't very good for the price they cost. It's certainly not a patch on the build quality of my E61 and F11 I had before. To be honest I was expecting more and it's come as a bit of a suprise, I'm not sure if it's designed that way or because it isn't built in Germany but it doesn't feel that well engineered or put together either way.

Hi,
My wife uses the display key that is always in her handbag - so she never uses the buttons on the key to open the door.
We have keyless entry - so you only need to use a door handle to unlock the car.
If you use drivers door handle to open the car - then everything is set correctly for the key that was detected by the car.
If you use passengers door handle with keyless entry - it does not set the memory seat and the other settings to that key.
Cheers

Dislike the media defaults to 'FM' and not 'Saved station' when starting the car.
Tried to untick or hide the FM through personalised menu but still came back after a while.
Unless i am missing some steps here.

Ah ok. I don’t have comfort access so always use the key fob.

I've driven many 5 series ... owned an M240i convertible , 320d E92, 330d E92, 330i E46, Z4 M roadster, 2 x E89 Z4 35iS ... and now an X3 M40i ... and it is up there with the Z4 35iS LCI I owned. I think you may be unlucky as, having owned or driven maybe 30+ BMW's this one is excellent. Only 1700 miles though lol

It's not a bad car and there's nothing wrong with it, they just aren't built to the same level of quality as the 5s were. If I hadn't had those to compare it probably wouldn't bother me but I have and do compare them. The X3 is most likely 3 series quality and finish but price wise its above the level of the 5 series and that does bug me that it isn't finished the same. Even my wife commented on shutting the door that it was a bit tinny this week and she isn't at all a car person.
