Had my new winter rims/tires installed yesterday. These rims are pretty close to the OEM rims (I think). These are 19" rims vs. the 21's that shipped with the vehicle. Also picked up 4x 433MHz sensors from a guy in Calgary - believe there were around $45CAD.

Changed my wife's tires as well with similar rims from Replica, but they didn't require sensors, since it works off the ABS. Those went from 19's down to 18's

Hey man - look good. No issues with brake clearance? You didn't need to use spacers right?

No issues with clearance. Brand is "Replica" model # 198 out of Montreal, Canada. Not sure about availability outside Canada. Price was around $185CAD/ea.

And no spacers used

Looks great. Want to get the same Replika wheels in 19" for my wife's X3. Finding very few choices in the OEM tire size of 245/50-19 so my tire guy recommended going to 235/55-19... which had many reasonably priced winter tire options. (Trying to decide between Blizzak DM-V2 and Michelin Xi-2)

Which size and tire did you go for?

I picked up Blizzack LM001 RFT's. Size 245/50R/19 Speed Rating 105V. I specifically wanted RFT's so choices were limited.

Super happy so far, smooth ride frankly.

My wife got non-RFT Blizzacks WS-80's, size 225/50R/18 (and different Replica rims)

Great price for both sets.

Great shop in Mississauga - "Tires 23". Corner of Matheson & Ambler just off the 401 @Dixie Rd

Great team, very decent prices. I think they may have a shop out in Markham as well, but can't speak to how that shop is run.

I think I'm going non-RFT

Lots of choices if you go non RFT's. I do a lot of traveling between Toronto and Montreal and not eager to get stuck along the 401 corridor, especially during winter months

Jesus - buying new wheels is a bloody minefield. I thought I'd just look for some wheels /rims this time round rather than swapping and changing just the tyres every half year. Resultant cost saving would be £90 (for swapping four tyres and balance) and storage £60) *2 per year = £300 per year. Clearly I'd have to get a rack in the garage but for about £100 I thinking a no brainer? My only concern it would have to be wall mounted which would be poised over the bonnet of new M40d (when it eventually gets here).

That said, I was thinking simple case of 19" / 20" (my wheels standard will be 20") and then saw these.

Questions to people who could maybe educate me:

1. Would the following be suitable:

2. What the hell is ET (don't say OUCH ;-) ET35/40/etc.. I looked it up but I still can't get it.

Not dumb questions. I wish I could help but I rely on the expertise of others (like the tire/rim dealer I frequent). He's been awesome over the years and hasn't steered me wrong yet (pun not intended!).

The ET, the offset from the centre of the rim to where it is mounted to the axle, can be a quite important.
You can learn, and play with calculators online like this one:

I'll repeat a table of stock sizes I put together from G01 selling material and realoem.com data:
7JX18 ET22 (225/60R18)

7,5JX19 ET32 (245/50R19)

8x20 ET27 (245/45R20)
9,5x20 ET43 (275/40R20)

8,5x21 ET30 (245/40R21)
9,5x21 ET43 (275/35R21)
(5/112 66.6mm)


You want to have the same circumference, within small margins, if you change size from stock.
You probably want narrower tires, if you can choose, for a winter set.

However this URL states a compatible rim but is 8.5Jx19, with tyre sizes 245/45R19

The right size tyre for the G01 X3 on a 19" wheel would be a 245/50.
The 245/45 would be too small a rolling radius.
An 8.5 inch rim width would still work with the correct 245/50 tyres, you just need to watch out for the offset (ET) to make sure the wheels wouldn't stick in too far (hit the suspension!) or stick out too far (hit the wheelarch!).

Yes, and the wheel calculator I linked above can help guessing these things.
And usually BMW got narrower stock rims, to have more rubber protecting the rim from curbs. What is not in the calculations here are rim and wheel load index, and how each rim and tire combo plays together, according to respective manufacture specs. Your tire shop should be able to verify that for you, once you selected a few choices.

I've found the same rims - looking for my wife's X3 M40i too. My OE rims were 30mm front / 43mm rear for the 21"s so how does this rim which I found out was 30mm offset look in the back? Does that mean my back wheels will be sunken?

Do you have a photo of how your 19"s look on the M40i - I'm so used to the 21"s.

Looking to get away from RFL at just regular Michelin Xi2s what do you think of these?
