So I have a 21 x3m with the newest istep update. 2 iPhones, both 12 pro running the newest software(but problem existed before the istep update and with older iOS 14 versions.).

My phone works as expected with wireless CarPlay. But when my fiancé's phone is in the car(but not on CarPlay) she can't use the internet on her phone. She needs to disconnect from WiFi. My phone doesn't have that issue, and when she is on CarPlay, her phone works as expected.

I've tried repairing the phone, forgetting networks, resetting networks, and turning off wireless hotspot. None of it works. I've been working around it by paying for hotspot for $20 a month :|

Anyone else experience this?

I had this problem.

In your iDrive, you need to turn OFF the WiFi that's built into the car. iPhones will connect to it automatically. Unless you are paying for the WiFi Hotspot through AT&T (new cars come with 3 month trial), this hotspot has no Internet, so while your phones connect, there ain't no internet.

I activated the hotspot and if you do that, it does work really well.

EDIT: I should add, turning off the HotSpot Wifi has zero effect on wireless CarPlay.

Yes, I have it off. Still connects to it though. Even when I forgot the network on her iPhone.

Just disconnect from the BMW WiFi network on the phone if it connects to it , you don't have to disable WiFi on phone completely … I have this problem on my phone occasionally and I just do that and it works every time …

Yes but that requires you to disconnect from WiFi every single time you get into the car. Which is what we are trying to avoid.

On the iPhone and under the BMW WiFi network … did you try unchecking auto-join?

Correct, it's off. I even tried forgetting the network and resetting network settings lol
