3M film on radar sensor

I see that my radar sensor takes quite a pounding from bugs etc.
Is it possible to put 3M film on it as protection without impending radar function?

I don't get what the purpose would be. I'm sure they're built to withstand bugs and other tiny debris. But I'm sure you can just test it out to see how it works then report back to us. If it doesn't work out, then take it off.

It seems to work.
I feel better because the whole thing seems like it is made of hard plastic.

Hi,
The problem with putting film on the sensor is that it might still work - but not at the right level of sensitivity.
This means it might only be functioning at 90 or 95%
That could be the difference between avoiding an accident or crashing.
I would rather replace a broken sensor (in the unlikely event it gets hit by a stone) than risk having an accident.
Cheers
Steve

The sensor is under a plastic cover. You see only the plastic cover. BMW did it that way in the event the plastic cover got damaged from road debris.

Plastic cover is inexpensive. Radar sensor is NOT!

I hate to be the one to be pointing this out - but if above true maybe I should quickly apply for patent for stealth aircraft. Coat them in 10-20 layers of 3m film?

LMAO :-)

These metalised films affect GPS signals - so why not the very low wattage radar sensors used on cars?

We also had ACC on our 2006 Honda CRV - snow used to affect the sensor and bring up an error on the display.

Car radar is so low powered - compared with combat aircraft!

I was just being LOL-worthy :-) . I think the reply above is the best. For those systems that are safety related - leave well alone. Best not tinker with something when you don't know the side effect, could be a bad crash or best case a ding you don't need :-)
