Exclamation Keys not working properly

Hello everyone,

I tried searching here for answers but I couldnt find anything so I hope I am not double posting.

I have a bmw x3 04 plate.
My key for the car was working just fine, e.g. unlocking the car and switching the car on.

The key now only unlocks the car but doesnt start the car.

I had to take my spare key out.

The spare key does not unlock the car, but it does switch the car on.

How can I make at least one key operate as it should to unlock and start the car?

Thanks

Change the battery. Tischer BMW or another BMW dealer should have the battery (It's rechargeable, so you can't use a normal CR coin battery)

Thanks Fris,

Do you think both key's need the replacement of the battery or just the one that doesnt unlock the car?

I do still wonder why the main key doesnt start the car though.

I think both keys need battery replacement. There could also be an RFID chip issue (since the main key only unlocks the car and doesn't start the car), but first step is battery replacement. https://www.youcanic.com/bmw/key-battery-replacement

Mine does the same; one key unlocks, while the other starts the car. I just deal with it and is the same issue with my old E46. The batteries get old and don’t charge in the ignition anymore.

any chance a top locksmith can replace the battery? I ask b/c I cannot stand the BMW dealership bought the car from (lotta dirty tricks - an AWFUL buying experience!).. and other dealerships 50+ miles away.

Honestly, I don't think is that hard to do, Just look at the video above and you'll be able to do it on your own. In case you are struggling any issues with that, call emergency locksmith e15 to fix this issue for you. I am pretty sure a locksmith will 100% fix this for you

My 2005 X3 key fobs have rechargeable batteries that are soldered to the circuit card as noted in the video above. I soldered in new batteries on both of mine when I got the car but the buttons to unlock the car still do not work. The keys will manually lock and unlock the doors and start the car. Ended up buying one new key fob and still use the other ones
