Let's be honest. From my experience on the road, the vast majority of people that drive the vehicles in this segment are women. From the Macan Turbo to the GLK. It is what it is.

I always thought it was the perfect "have your cake it eat it too car for the skiier/enthusiast". I don't have female genitalia nor children and it suits me fine... haha I get this crap from friends who are sedan/coupe drivers.. and then they ride in my car, and it stops
All the driving video games have an "SUV" class now, so all of us obsessed with unnecessarily fast SUVs don't seem so crazy now do we?

I agree that it is the perfect compromise vehicle for the mountains. I drove three different Audi S4 Avants over the past ten years, which was the ultimate do everything vehicle, until Audi decided to stop importing them to the US. I bought my X3 35ixdrive M-Sport two years ago and love its blend of sportiness and utility. I do miss the third pedal of my S4, but I love the increased mpgs and the turbos at altitude here in CO. I will love the motor even more after I bring it in tomorrow for the Dinan upgrade!!!

Downtown city life with on street parking and because of that we are a one vehicle family. It's almost perfect. All we need now is a proper M. Soccer moms rejoice!

I would argue that they are the perfect Practical Shooting Dad's car!! Plenty of room for you and three of your shooting buddies, along with guns, gear and ammo in the back!! Not to mention 20+ MPG on the highway makes getting to those matches a little cheaper too.

i agree most drivers of X3s are women, but i believe this vehicle to be a hidden gem. it's a sleeper. I had a 2012 X5 50i m-sport and loved it. the only problem was garage space and obviously fuel economy. exciting to drive but dropping wife at the station, driving to work, picking her up, and then finally driving home killed my wallet on gas. We also have a two car garage and it was very tight with our two SUVs so I traded her in and picked up an X3 m-sport. Never looked back. the X3 feels roomy, has plenty of muscle, is much more nimble and has some really cool technology. I also coded her so it's even nicer now. I'm now saving a ton on gas and am much more comfortable in the garage with the smaller size.
i'm very happy. (although I keep looking at the M3s )

My wife and I both love our X3 with equal pleasure - it is a perfect blend of space, agility, utility, moveability, and fun..... Our local dealer allows us to try all of the BMW range from the 1 series (which my daughter is getting) to a hybrid and an x6 (even had an i8 for a day) and we would only replace it with another X3 or maybe an X4...(unless I will the lottery then I would have an i8 for fun!!) - - so its no surprise its the perfect car for soccer mums or any other group....

In the UK we call a sleeper a Wolf in Sheep's clothing. The xDrive30d is a great compromise with reasonable fuel consumption and 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds and very often driven by old males such as me.

To me the sedan is the really boring car. I see a sort of cycle with cars. At 17 you buy a clapped out car, don't care what it is, just the fact it is yours and you are free is cool enough. At 21 you buy a hot hatch. You love it. At 25 you buy a coupe, it feels like you have made it. At 29 you have a family, you buy a decent estate or suv because you need the space but you still need to get your bikes and boards in there. At 35 you have the above for the family car and you can then buy yourself something a bit special too, maybe that 911 or the M4. At 40 you are bored of the M4 and the 911 and decide that you will buy yourself an SUV to sit alongside the other SUV in the garage, because if you're honest you find the 911 a bit of a chore, you have scratched that itch but in all honesty you prefer the comfort. At 50 your kids have left home and you have no real interest in buying a sports car and you have had 10 15 years in an SUV so you then buy a 7 series or something, you like it, but next time you will buy another SUV. The sedan to me is what you buy if you have no life, don't board, don't bike, or it is what your company buys you as that is the budget, they are not willing to pay more for the wagon or the SUV, the sedan will have to do. To me a sedan is a bit sad. It says your life is pretty fucking dull. |

I've thought about getting a 335 a few times.. but my mom has always had a 3er (E21, E30, E36, E90) so that kinda feels like the "mom car' to me lol. The F30 is a beautiful design (and perhaps my favorite 3er yet), but still somehow a "boring sedan" with such interesting designs coming from BMW and other German competitors (X4/X6, 3GT, 4GC/6GC, X1, and the Audi A7 if I'm allowed to say that here lol)

I like the 3 series and 5 series, always have, but the sedan is always the boring one.
This was my 3 series... This was my 5 series.... My S4... My 335i... Far better than the sedan, in that you just look like a photocopier sales rep!! |
