X4 M40i Dinan?

Just starting to look into Dinan options for my X4 M40i. Anyone installed any Dinan parts on one yet?

I'm coming from a 2015 M3 so I'd like some more performance (I know an X4 is not an M3).

Curious how the various Dinan options impact and improve performance. Any impact to fuel efficiency?

Can you manage setting through iDrive?

Any input is appreciated.

There's literally no performance parts available for x3 or x4 at this time.

EBG913 I highly recommend Bootmod3, I had it in my 2016 X4 M40i and for friendly comparison the tune/drivability is like OEM but with more gitty up where you need it. It comes with STG1 and STG2 forms for 91 or 93 and also the E30 blend map is my favorite.

BM3 is not out yet for B58 found in the 19+ X4 M40i but should be soon

My Dinan Stage 1 is due for installation mid-January - I can let you know about performance post install. I had a Dinan Stage 3 on my 235i and was superbly smooth.

What's difference between stage 1 vs. stage 3 etc.

For my old 235 (N55), Stage 3 included a CAI (Stage 1) and then a Dinan FMIC for Stage 3. These aren't necessary (or even available) for the Dinan Stage 1 for the B58 engine.

In fact, I'm a bit worried Dinan pulled the Stage 1 tune from their site for the X3 M40i...explains why I couldn't get the tune back in early Oct and still waiting for my dealer to get the ok from Dinan that it's ready. I had heard initial reports back in the summer that the X3M40i was getting drive train malfunction notifications, so I assume it wasn't ready for prime time - but that was ~4+ months ago.

Might not be getting this tune if they can't get it sorted out.

Dinan_Engineering might be able to chime in on the continued delay for the X3M40i Stage 1 tune delay?

EDIT for the OP's question: Power difference from Stage 1 to Stage 3 was a fairly large lift - can't recall exactly now, but the difference in power was definitely obvious. Was so much fun to drive and with the Android app, you could scale between Stage 1 & 3 so around town, you could drive in Stage 1. Very nice tune and I was very happy with its performance

D440-0122 is technically the part number for the X3/X4 M40i and to my knowledge our original customer development car is still running around trouble free. The application was pulled however as we received numerous reports (different locations and dealers) that the application was not making any power. However the cars also did not display any codes, CEL, DTMAL or any drivability issues which makes troubleshooting in the field more difficult other then just throwing parts at the problem. That is not exactly a great tactic financially nor does it do the end user any good so it was decided to pull the application from the listing while we are able to track down and get some additional M40i cars in the building to do additional testing on to determine what the cause may be, if there is a problem at all.

That is where we stand now and we haven't had much success in getting any other M40i vehicles in the building either unfortunately.

Dinan_Engineering Thanks for reply and transparency into the current Stage 1 issue(s). It sounds as though it could still be sometime before a Stage 1 tune will be available for these vehicles. Might consider the JB route, although the "warranty" bit worries me a little, but not a huge concern. Thanks for the reply Dinan.

It sucks Dinan couldn't get anything out that's fine because increasing boost is not ONLY way these cars make power.
When Protuning Freaks started tuning my X4 M40i they worked on the software tuning for weeks with me datalogging and testing in the beta days. Now BM3 is so stable with over 10k users anyone with a X4 M40i should get Bootmod3 as it is the most tested and proven platform for BMW since April 2016.

DINAN "had" stage 1 piggy back SW upgrade for B58, then (shortly) later pulled from the shelf. Reason given is, ROI just was not there given the $ charged by DINAN. Current road map from DINAN has no B58 support on the horizon. Reason given was, the AL company is too busy with ///M cars, eg. newly released M5.

I called Dinan last week asking the same thing. Because I really like the look and supposed HP increase of their B58 CF intake. I wanted to see if it will fit the 2020 M40i from the M340 and maybe any other B58 cars. Answer was there are 0 available Dinan products for the 2020 M40i. \Thread

I'm waiting it out for Dinan. I've had Stage 1 and Stage 2 Dinan BMW's; each performed flawlessly and made serious power

Did they state if the 340 intake would fit the m40?

The exact opposite. The 340 does NOT fit the M40i. So thats why I said that there are no Dinan parts available. I know its 5oclock somewhere but.

Ah that sucks, I was one waiting for the 2020 X3M40i edition of the tune from Dinan. Biggest selling point for me was the relationship with BMW dealers and the minimal impact on warranty.

So guys, help a brother out, if I wanted to get a tune for my vehicle, nothing crazy but I wouldn’t mind another 40+ HP and 40+ lb/tq, but keep the reliability and warranty intact, are there any options? I’ve done a whole Lotta tuning on motorcycles, but when your motorcycle is less than $10,000, blowing the engine isn’t that big of a deal.
