Overall, I agree with your statement, though I fail to understand how it is pertinent to this thread.

What I understand this thread is about something related to potential failure in our X3 tech as the cars just suddenly do an emergency braking when there are no obstacles in front of them. Are you insinuating that it is more likely that it is about driver error and not so much tech issue?

I hope if there are any hardware component issues with the technology, let people find it and not discourage them.

You're right; this was not helpful to the exact point of the thread. However, I have turned off this functionality (which is the simple-minded way I've dealt with any potential issue, while trying hard to keep myself and passengers safe!). Based on my experience with other car forums, my posting was way more in line with the OP than most! I guess this forum has more detail-oriented members.

2020 X3 Sudden Emergency Braking For No Reason

Hello! I had an identical situation where there was no one in front of me, and I was traveling about 50 mph, and the red warning light popped-up, like I was following too close to another vehicle or a broken-down vehicle was in front of me, and my car braked hard. I mean HARD. Scared me to death. I immediately looked in my rear-view to see if I was about to be rear-ended. Thankfully, no one was behind me, and all is okay. I contacted Irvine BMW, and they want me to bring it in immediately, which I will do. I will provide an update to my post here, as soon as possible. Thank you to the other kind folks who posted the same issue here. I do appreciate knowing that I am not alone!

I've never experienced this but I want to talk about my experience with the system actually working when it should.

After having my car for 4 months, I was also incredibly annoyed by the beeping and alerts and debating disabling all features. While driving to work with my toddler, a cyclist that didn't brake fast enough at crossing had his wheel in the road. Suddenly my car breaked. By the time I realized what was happening, car was already moving. When the car did this, I had not even noticed what had happened. Moment biker rolled back, it had continued. All this happened in under 3 seconds. this happened as I was close to crossing. If I had this disabled, I would have reacted too slowly.

For me, this safety feature really prevented an accident.

I would maybe try changing settings to low sensitivity, but I also get suddenly braking is also dangerous and the driver behind would not expect this and may not be driving a bmw with the safety features

Glad it saved you in that instance. My vehicle hasn't needed to emergency brake for me yet, but I'm hoping whenever it does it does it for the right reason.

Hopefully driver behind you would be following at a "safe distance" and should have enough reaction time to not come into contact with you as well.

I have had this happen on two occasions; both of which were approaching a corner (turning to the right FWIW). I recall once a car was coming the other direction and the other time there was nothing else on the road.
