Favorite programmable presets buttons

Greetings. I’m always interested to hear from others what their preferences are when it comes to customizable features of the car. It’s a great source for ideas on how we use our vehicles. In this case, the 1-7 keys that can be programmed for quick access to commonly used functions. Here are mine. What are yours?

1. Presets for radio/xm
2. Enable split screen with media
3. Messages- great way to get to text messages or messages sent to car
4. Driver profiles- allows for quick switching with spouse
5. Comfort ventilation- have to kill the engine first but quickly turns on this feature
6. Navigate to my cabin- one button press and it automatically launches for directions
7. Navigate home- same as above but I may change this as I now have my gesture programmed to do this.

Thanks

Also, can you set up sport display in “comfort mode”. I really like the digital speedometer. How is it done?

There is a selectable option in the navigation menu that says “go home”. You just highlight that selection and then a long press the button you want to program. You can also do this with any other addresses you have in your recent destination lists.

I second this question, is this possible? I've had my m40i for a week and done a bit of iDrive hunting but haven't figured it out....

P.S. -- Great thread idea, I haven't set any of the presets yet and this is super helpful for getting ideas about how I might use them, they seem like a great unique feature to the BMW (and proof that the guys complaining about too many buttons in that recent autoguide review are clueless).

Great thread. Opens the mind, thanks!
1.AM news (local)
2.FM news (PBS)
3.Sat news (politics)
4.Sat news (stock market)
5.HUD toggle on/off (sunglasses mode)
6.Weather app
7.iPod (usb input) music collection
Since I hate commercials button 7 is an especially quick way to switch over to music

Wish there were "tier banks" of selections so we would have say ..... 21 programmable buttons

HUD toggle on/off is a great idea! I recently spent a handsome sum on a pair of prescription Maui Jim's that make the HUD disappear, so I'd rather just turn it off when I wear them. I'm definitely going to try that this weekend.

Oh, otherwise my presets are all just favorite SeriusXM stations.

Haven’t got my M40 yet but assuming it is pretty much the same as the M3 I have one set for the tyre pressure / temp display and one for the oil level

Yeah, I tried the sport display and it won't save; so I guess that's not an option.

it is just the sport display on idrive screen, not the instrument panel.

That's exactly what I had showing, but full screen. When I long-pressed a button to save it, it said "unable to save".

As explained in the previous posts, this "sport display" is for the power and torque meter in the iDrive screen, not the instrument panel.

But you can configure the sport mode to have comfort mode settings. Just go to sport mode and choose configure, and you can set each parameter to comfort. The only thing you cannot set is the disabled Auto Stop/Start in sport mode. Then when you select sport mode, you can choose the "individual" for the comfort mode settings you have configured, or choose the default sport mode with all the sport settings. And you would have your digital speedometer with comfort settings.

You need to go back one step, before it displays and save at that point.

Great post and I've used a few of these ideas to change up my buttons already.

Quick tip for CarPlay users: anywhere there's a link for "Maps in Apple CarPlay" or "Media in Apple CarPlay" etc you can highlight it and then save that to a button to easily access specific CarPlay sections.

I eliminated a sat radio preset and put a console display master on/off toggle next to my HUD display on/off toggle. Sure makes it more relaxing for night driving to just have it off if not needed. The new preset actually functions mostly as a display-off since anytime you touch the iDrive wheel it comes back on.

EDIT: had no luck at all assigning a button to toggle the daytime running lights on/off (sometimes I just don’t want to drive around with a pair of chandeliers on the front of the car)

So what is towing mode? Does this use the rear camera to view behind when towing. How do you activate it? Looked in the manual and it's not mentioned in the towing section.
