Launch Control = Burnt Smell
I tried launch control for the first time on my 2016 X4 35i tonight and was greeted with a fairly strong burning smell. I expect launch control to be hard on an AWD car, but I didn't think it would smell like I just dumped the clutch from 6K.
I also have an M235i (RWD) and have done launch control a handful of times and have never smelled anything or felt like I just horribly abused the car. Has anyone else gotten a very strong smell after using launch control? Regardless, it'll be the last time I try it on the X4.

How many miles are you at? May have cooked your trans case fluid. I have launched my 2016 X3 35i at least 100 times and I am making way more power than stock, never once had an issue. May be time for you to do a fluid change.

Car only has 27K miles. Can't imagine the fluid is spent. Had my ZF8 fluid changed on my M235i at 60K and it looked fine. The X4 is driving fine so I don't think any permanent damage was done. Just odd.

Wow at 27k for something like that is very odd. I'd say, if you want to, do another launch and see if that smell persists. You may have never really heated the trans or tcase and on the first time it really gets heat in it they do make a wretched stink.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. I'll probably try one more time to see if it was a fluke or not.

Sport plus and shifter to the left but not in manual mode. You should see S1 on the gear indication. Floor the brake, floor the gas and a LC indication should come up.
