Question about front tow hook license plate mount

Hey guys, I have a silly question, I know most of you living in the States have the luxury of not installing the front plates. But as you all know stupid Canada requires us to have the front and rear plate.

Since I don't want the dealer to drill holes in my new baby (m40i) I did some research on some mounts and found out that it's actually really convenient to install these tow hook license plate mount in the front, since all the new vehicles come with an OEM spot where you can just mount on.

In the event I install one of these, do you think it will effect any parking sensors in any way or influence its ability to function properly? Thanks again for reading.
Below is a quick youtube video of someone installing it if you're unsure what I am talking about.

It's not mandated at the federal level, it is by province. In Quebec we have the luxury of not needing a front plate.
Of course we get taxed through the nose....

Would you know the answer in regards to the sensors and all that stuff?

Although I don't have that kind of plate holder I will try to do a test using one of my kids holding an old licence plate in that area and get back to you.

I had explored the same thing when I got my X4 almost two years ago. I don't think it's possible due to the tow hook's proximity to the parking sensor. The X4 doesn't look bad with the front license plate, no regrets here in drilling a couple holes.

I used the US millwork tow hook plate holder of 2 of my BMW'S.

On the x3 it affects the PDC sensors. on my m235 it doesn't.

I drive without it on my X3 now. been that way for almost a year, no tickets.

I had my wife dangle her slim purse in front of the hood and she was able to get it in the area that the plate would be and the sensor did not go off.... So you may be able to pull it off... but of course you won't know until you try it.

Good luck.

Unfortunately with the X3 and X4 it will block the sensors and will continually go off. You could deactivate the front sensors by coding your car but I wouldn't recommend doing that.

Seriously? With all due respect where are you sourcing this from?

Sensors are, probably, sensing at about 45 degrees - there is a risk that RH central sensor will trigger.

Suggestion:
- invest in a holder
-check PDC
- if malfunction - trim LH edge (inner) til function.
-if successful - install plate with inner edge as holder

From my own experience! I just got my own X4 M40i last week. I was also a Client Adviser for 4 years for BMW and delivered hundreds of BMW's. Here in New York you have to have the front plate so a lot of clients asked for alternatives. Most of the cars worked with the tow hook mount but with the X3 and X4 always made the middle left sensor go off. Is that good enough for you??

Yep, I concur (at least for the X3). I tried so many variations, damn thing kept going off no matter how I located the plate. Granted it's not an X4, but if the PDC sensor on the X4 is within (say) about 10" or so from where the edge of the plate will land, it'll go off.

EDIT: drive without the plate. Front looks better without it anyway. Fine is $110 & no demerit points...only IF you get caught. Chances are slim. I've been going for about 10 months and drive the 401, 407, 416 consistently from week to week. I've passed OPP cars left right and center - even with my radar detector CLEARLY stuck to my windshield. Most OPP are decent guys & don't really care. They're more interested in nailing you for being on your cell (which, for the record, I don't do!!)

Yeah I've seen a lot of talk about that being one of the good ones out there, there's also this one on ebay that it's pretty famous I'm not sure if it will work.

If you offset it all the way to the left you might have a chance. But I remember there still being problems with that one sensor in the middle. Let us know after you install it, hopefully it will work!

I have it on my X3 and it does not set off the sensors. I have had it on my x3 for over 1 and a half years and have not had any issues. Even ROBNYC has it on his new X4 M40i.

I'm only speaking on my own experience and the numerous amount of clients cars that I have dealt with. If Mill Works tow hitch bracket is different and allows the plate to shift over enough to not effect the sensor then thats great.

Yea I bought it per your recommendation and because I know it works on X3 M-Sport bumper since you have it.
