2008 BMW X3 ...blown engine, is this a suitable replacement?

I have a 2008 X3 with a blown engine. The mechanic i took it to says that after 2009, the engine components changed around, so the 2010 motor i found at the junkyard down the street won't work or at least would create more work.

Is the 2010 X3 engine not a direct plug and play for a 2008?

I'm almost certain they are all the N52N motor. In 2008 they called it the 3.0si and in 2010 it was called the 3.0xdrive. However in the parts system they're both called the 3.0si. They are the same motor.

For peace of mind, you might grab the last 7 digits of the donor VIN and look the car up at realoem.com to verify.
