Think I'm keeping my x3, upgrade navi?

Hey guys love my x3 its 2012 35i m sport. Just hit 100k and did some maint to it, some oil leaks and issues with overheating. But after $3k in repairs im going to hang onto it until theres a used electric cayenne out there(which i know doesnt exist yet)

My iphone has this strange issue where whenever I get in the car I need to switch the input to auxiliary and then back to Bluetooth so that I can play music. It also skips audio every once in a while as if it's a CD player. It may be an issue with the firmware on my iPhone that stuck from an old back up because it happens on a lot of other devices to, like my headphones. Anyway, I wasn't sure if the car needed the Bluetooth module replaced but I thought it would be handy to upgrade the screen and go for a CarPlay option so that the screen was actually useful. I was wondering if there was a fan favorites on the board , I know I've seen some cool ones that look like the earlier models where the screen pokes out and it's a little bit bigger. Thanks for any input.

Have you had it since new? Any other big issues besides regular maintenance? Any performance mods?
Upgraded navigation/head unit wise I see A LOT of people moving towards the android based units, from what I hear they're mostly plug and play.

I'm loving my X3 a lot more than I thought I would prior to purchasing it. I'm about 12k miles into my ownership (almost 2 years, I don't drive much) and I was originally planning on selling it after a few years but now I'm not so sure.

I've got a Bimmer Tech MMI box I'm looking to add as soon as I have good weather and spare time on the weekend. The install looks pretty straightforward. I wanted to maintain the stock screen. Audio goes in through the aux input and the default instructions take up the port.

Once you've done the installation I'd be interested in a review of how difficult (or not) the process was, how well it integrates with existing BMW controls, and how happy you are with the unit overall.

There are many of these MMI boxes on the market, many are very similar. The Bimmer Tech one is very expensive compared to the others, as is everything they sell

Link to the details and installation info on these MMI units

I bought a unit from AVIN Usa and I gotta say, it really makes the car more modern.

I use my avin screen for youtube (music) and I have my cell phone mounted running google maps.

I installed an Avin unit as well. It is all plug and play. No cutting of wires. All BMW functions are retained and it's a little more money than the MMI, but the look and functionality are well worth it.

Wow that looks awesome. Is this the unit you guys purchased? What specs did you opt for and how is performance? Any stutters or slow performance in the operating system?

Mr12volt is the only "media box" thats worth upgrading to. MOST fiber optic audio quality and it doesn't interfere with the other CAN communication systems on the car.

Mr12volt just released a new model that uses the OEM mic. Planning to get that myself.
