all mentioned are imho, normal maintenance, but the transmission obviously.

Lot of people told me the same on my audis, but if I put some thousand $ every year on a preventive maintenance, just like other car lovers I know, they will survive for a long long time.

But car maker like this make me rage, they making luxury cars, with a lot of materials, and not so reliable with a basic maintenance. ''disposable'' car in 201X , is fcking stupid.

I remember the guy who destroy his series 7 with a baseball bat in the street because he was pissed that you pay tons of money on a non-repairable car.

Look at BMW's client base... we're not the type of folks to keep cars for 10 years and 200k miles. I'm already hitting 55k miles and thinking about trading in.

this is a social issue, changing cars 3-4 years, or crushing 10yo cars because it cost more to repair than the actually car price, is a overconsumption habit that will lead one day to government to control our consumption habit.

Making new cars use tons of resources. If we can make them live longer is already a good step.

see in china and france, they forbid people to use their car depending the day of the week, because of all there abuse and non-breathable air.
Norway, already control petrol cars hard...

And I dont even talk about the economical cost... its huge for ''normal'' people changing cars. first 6 months a normal car can loose 20-30% of his initial values.
No issue if people has money, but for most people, they dont have and cut on other important thing.

I keep my cars about 10 years, my 1-Series is going on 8 and it'll probably actually be around more than 2 more years. Unless my X3 falls apart I'll have it a long time as well. I liek cars and want to drive fun ones, but realistically I'd rather retire early than swap them out every so often and keep taking that initial loss in value over and over again.

I do agree the majority of owners are more interested in the badge and / or turn them around quickly.

I have a 2011 X3 35i and am happy with it, I did replace the water pump @80k but I cant seem to get rid of it as I really like it and its paid off if you do not mind little nick nacks to fix every now and then these x3 35i's are a blast to drive

My 2011 X3 35i is going strong with over 110k miles. Replaced water pump and other expected maintenance for the mileage, nothing out of the ordinary. The only annoying issue was the delaminated glove box door, but I replaced it.

Did you buy the X3? looks like it is still for sale...
