I replied with this info in another post but figured I would start a new thread since I've seen the topic arise a few times.
To keep the valves open: - Start and put in Sport + - Blip throttle to open - Crawl under and unplug both actuators They will remain in their last position until hooked back up. No. You'll have to put some electrical tape over the actuator plug to protect it from the elements.

What does the exhaust button in the x3/4m control if not the valves? In my M3, the valves are controlled automatically based on the engine setting (efficient/sport/sport+) and throttle input. But the x3m has an actual exhaust button...what does it do?

I read on the G01 forum that fuse 203 disables the actuator too - anyone try that on the he X3MC?
Regarding the actuators - is there one connector on each side, anyone have a photo of what needs unplugging? Last edited by Zero71; 01-01-2020 at 07:30 PM.. |

Can't hurt really, pop the car into sport plus, pull the fuse, put it back into efficient and see what happens. If no other adverse effects are noted and the desired change happens, then I'll prob also go with this method.

Can I check a couple of things...
How many actuators do we have? I gather from the G01 forum that the M40i only had one and it impacts the left exhaust only. I'm assuming we have two, one each side? The G01 appears to close the left exhaust on start up for faster warm up, then opens after 30 secs, so they get a louder start up, even in Sport+. I think the X3MC is open both sides on start up and closes at least partially as you move off as it gets quieter after startup? Process on G01 seems to be to drive for 5 or 10 mins to open valves, yet our car it seems to be just cold start it. So the exhaust is operating quite differently? One guy on G01 forum suggested his valve vibrated closed over a number of weeks after deactivating valve. Is this possible? I thought they were motorized and would be locked in place by the powered off motor. |
