Hi Bimmers,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. I am confused about the instrument cluster for 2019/2020 X4. I have seen these two types of clusters below:





I thought most x4 is equipped with the cluster as the first picture shown. I wonder which version of 2019/2020 x4 is equipped with 2nd cluster?

The 1st is your standard older display. Called idrive 6 or id6. The bottom one is the newest display id7 or live cockpit pro. And it is part of a upgraded package. I think it could be the executive? Someone will correct me im sure. Welcome.

The top picture is of the first generation X4 (2014-2018) which includes the standard dials cluster.

The bottom picture is of the second generation X4 (2019-) showing the full digital cluster (normally a cost option, depending on the model).

I assume the X4 is the same as the X3 in that most models will at least come with the semi digital / analogue cluster (not shown in your pics, but there are loads on this forum).

OP, your top pic is a last gen MY17 or prior car with iDrive 5. Current gen MY19 X3s and X4s had iDrive 6 and a similar instrument cluster.

For MY20, iDrive 7 and the bottom pic's "Live Cockpit Pro" instrument cluster is standard on US X4s. It's an option on X3s.

The 2018/19 clusters actually look nice and clean. I'm still not in love with the Live Cockpit Pro even after driving one for a couple of days in a rental.

I love the new Live Cockpit Pro. Having maps there free's my center console for other stuff. iDrive 7 is better for center console too... I have directions in HUD, map in the Instrument cluster and Map Overview in one Panel of the center console - which is shared with Media and Weather.

It's a shame you can't drive your Z4M anymore... You won't be able to find your way home without HUD directions and multiple maps!

In its default mode, I don't like it so much either; there's way too much stuff going on. It hurts my brain. I don't like the old one either; it's a step backwards from my F16 LCD dash which was the perfect amount of smashing.

I configured my X4 live cockpit to be in reduced mode, with the center section being route preview. Its the closest to what I had on my F16 in sport mode and gives me exactly what I need to drive: how fast am I going in a great big number in the middle of the speedo side. There's a few little icons around the outside edge to show settings (like do you have cruise turned on, LDW, ASS, etc), but I don't notice them unless I'm looking for them.

If I want to see the crazy-a** display for a bit, I can click on the upper button on the left stalk and it will come up. I have to do that to see the gas gauge (I guess they figure: who needs that unless they're running out of gas? -- and it starts showing shows up when you're at 100miles left -- but the miles left does not).

As others said, you are showing two completely different generation X3's.. The bottom one is the current generation, as the top is the previous generation.
