What happend?!?

I have seen the concept car in the flesh and it was intesting. Concept to reality Beer goggles anyone?

Now that I veiw the test vehicles, I am afraid it is another botched up design. Come on BMW? It is neither confrontational ala E65 nor attractive and fluid and elegant like the current F10.

It is as if a committee is interfering with producing a singular design language or expression. Audi, Land Rover and Lexus used to be like this but have all found their identies and are beating you at this.

Unfortunately this is correct.

BMW at times seems completely lost. What's clear at this point is from a portfolio perspective they are about 2-3 yrs behind MB and Audi. Splitting up coupes and sedans, subcompact segments, moving towards 2 major modular platforms (one for transverse FWD applications and one for longitudinal RWD applications), introducing gran coupes (read Audi sport back), m performance models/m performance parts (read Audi S). I don't have a problem with this, I actually think it's good for BMW in the long run. And I love what they're doing with CFRP, weight reduction, idrive, and BMW i subbrand. Let's just admit that they are chasing the other two with these other philosophies.

Here's what I have a problem with -MB & Audi have created flagship cars on the top end along with this portfolio expansion. Where is the BMW X7 to fully compete with the Mercedes GL? Where is the R8 competitor? Where are TT/TTS/TTRS competitor? How many more years do we have to wait for an M7?

Also, there is redundancy / uselessness with models like this x4, 3gt, x6, 5gt. That effort would be better spent on other models....

Oh well, 4GC & 6GC look nice I guess.

Soo much hate.

It's not amazing... but again with that hate on BMW for offering something that offers a more focused option to some buyers.

Anybody who thinks this is a bad idea is blind to the market needs for a more affordable version of the X4.

I'll give you that one.

If each of these models required its own development effort I might agree. BMW's development approach leverages existing platforms for niche models, and all the vehicles you listed have platform "parents" that sell lots of units and therefore amortize the development costs. Comparatively speaking, bringing these models to market is a very inexpensive way for BMW to capture additional market share by targeting narrower customer segments with niche vehicles.

In other words, these may seem useless or redundant to you, but BMW doesn't care as long as enough people buy them to make their incremental investment worthwhile. We don't know about the X4 or 3GT yet, but the X6 and 5GT have met their sales targets.
