Extensive wear of front tire at 6000 miles. Update: dealer suggested to replace tie r

I posted following thread in the F25 forum and just realized that I should have put it here. This is a 2019 X3. Based on replies from the other forum, this is certainly a wheel alignment issue, but I did not really expect to align the wheels for a new car...

Based on the attached photos, it is quite obvious that the front tire wears much faster than rear tire, especially on the outer shoulder (for both front tires). I have about 90% driving in local and 10% highway and the car has 6000 miles.

Update 28/10. Went to the dealer and they suggested to replace the tir rod. They said that the front one was bent and I must had hit a pothole ($600 and warranty wont cover it). However, I don't feel any issues driving the car and do not recall hitting any potholes. I also took a photo of the rod, which looks straight to me(attached in the original post). Had other cars in the house and never got the rod replaced...

I had a similar issue - my dealer told me I needed new tires (at 9,000 miles) and that I needed an alignment - they were going to charge me $235 for the alignment...

I said no thanks and went to NTB and they did it for $99.

I also have the same issue. It causes a vibration around 80mph. Around 8k on my 19in Alenza 001 RFTs. My dealer told me I caused this issue by under-inflating my tires, which is not true, as I check every few weeks with a gauge and make sure they're set to the under-100mph pressures. I got the same story, need new tires and an alignment.

I'm not too upset of this. My snows are going on soon, and given the roads here in VT an alignment won't be a bad idea, so I'll deal with this in the spring. Probably get the Michelin PS4 SUV tires which I'm sure will be dramatically superior to the RFTs.

If it's anything like other BMW models, it's due to the camber.

I'm upgrading my lower control arms and tension struts on my M140i to add more negative camber. As well as improving handling, it also helps reduce tyre wear on the fronts.

I'd question the viability of modding the front suspension to increase negative camber on an SUV, and it's not really doable unless you install adjustable camber plates - one needs to be able to re-position the top of the strut to change the camber, at least this is the cheaper and more common method used. This is what people who track their car's do, and most are typically using coil-over suspensions. For a street driven daily driver SUV it makes about zero sense IMO, if you had and M3 and were tracking the car, that makes sense.

I posted a reply to the OP's thread in the F25 forum; I think it's much more likely he's got a 'toe' alignment/mis-alignment issue. Either that or tire pressures are too high.

I have the Bridgestone DUELER H/L. The tire pressure is within the range. I have not inflate the tires yet. Will get a quote for alignment.

If others have similar issue, there is probably a misalignment in the front end at factory. Both rear tires look fine, even though the car is rear driven.

Mine is a 1 Series (M140i). You can fit the control arms and tension struts from the M3/M4 to that which improves the camber. Not so easy to do on the X3.

I don't remember what NTB changed - they did say the fronts were bad and one rear was really bad - they adjusted the fronts to within spec, but couldn't adjust the rear enough, so they did "the best they could".

Roads here in Houston are terrible, so I'm not surprised the alignment was messed up - probably need to get it done again since it's been 6 months.

Prolly just needs alignment. You can see wear is only on one side (or more extensive on one side) of tire. Not a big deal. Watch out for pot holes and curbs.

Looks bent when enlarged on my PC screen. Not sure how that would happen without knowing it.

Bent tie rod likely not covered as they will say there was a pothole to blame. Likely too small for an insurance claim too. I had suspension components bent by a pothole on a F10, so you're not the only one. My pothole caused more than $600 in damage. Closer to 3x that, and with a $1000 deductible I decided not to make a claim. Eventually the insurance will get you even if you have a "forgiveness" policy and even if it is not your fault.
