Windshield cleaning advice

On PA turnpike this am taking dog to vet hospital for spaying. A tractor trailer attached to a liquid carrying trailer was spilling something all over the place. It was dark I thought it was raining. Anyway hit wipers and whatever it was barely came off.

Got home, went thru drive car wash twice and residue on windshield would not budge. At home here I've tried soap, dawn, glass cleaner to no avail. It kind of comes off with a scraper, but????? Still don't even know what it is.

Any advice from you guys appreciated

You could try a clay bar. Griots makes one specifically for glass but not sure if there is truly a difference between it and a regular clay bar for the rest of the vehicle.

I have used Ethanol or methanol before to clean sticky residue from windows, methanol worked better, using paper roll instead of cloths though to remove and discard.
Then a decent glass polish
