Anti-Dazzle Headlights
Hi All,
I know there is a separate coding thread, but I was struggling to find an answer. I live in the US, and I have a M40i that I believe has the hardware to enable anti-dazzle. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to enable? Thank you |

To my knowledge, there is no publicly available tutorial for the G01 chassis. You can find tutorials for F chassis cars on the web. For example, the attached file walks you through how to code NGHB on an F15 car; see, in particular, Appendix 2. You can also find threads where people describe the general steps to code NGHB (non-glare high beams) on G chassis cars. For example:
https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sh....php?t=1001658 https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1578885 The general steps seem to be:
The sticky point is that there is no publicly available list of the relevant FDLs that must be coded after VO coding FLM. The general recommendation is to compare US and European NCDs, where the comparison should reveal the relevant FDLs. You obviously have the US NCDs. You can create the European NCDs for your car using Coding Verification in E-Sys. I can confirm that coding verification works in E-Sys 3.27.1 and 3.33.4. I read that it does not work in other versions of the software. |

I see that the PDF file I intended to attach failed to upload. For some reason, I cannot upload any files to xbimmers right now. You can find the F15 tutorial I am talking about at this URL

I vaguely remember someone here trying it, and coming to the conclusion that the light modules are missing some component needed to make things like the light tunnel work, and you wind up with very blurred results instead of the desired sharp cut off. |

I think Tokenmaster's hiatus and the popularity of Bimmercode that make experimentation on this level less accessible, haven't helped. The version of E-Sys Launcher Pro I used early on really did not work properly with my iStep. Newer versions work properly, thankfully. On my car I did not seem to get distinct vertical cutoffs. I was often seeing glare above the standard headlamp line on car in front of me. I have seen it work properly on a friend's professionally coded 2018 G01. I've compared the coding on the two cars and I still get the glare with similar coding on my 2019 G02. Others who have tried, even from professional coders, have reported unsatisfactory results as well. He no longer has that car, so it's harder for me to make comparisons now. Had I been able to, it would have been good to compare the ISTA+ test pattern with both cars side by side. Is it a coding problem? Is it a headlamp alignment problem? Did BMW start omitting hardware needed for a proper tunnel in more recent builds? Hard to say without more evidence. As you'll find on older NGHB threads, it's tricky because people will often believe their NHGB works properly when they see their headlights doing most of the actions. You have to know what to look for to see if the tunnel is truly working properly or not. Even with my incorrect NGHB, no oncoming traffic has ever flashed me. But I'm sure cars I've followed would hate me if I left it on. |

BimmerCode does most of the coding you list above. I have used BimmerCode and also been trying to work with eSys. Trying to get AGHG working has been very challenging. I've spent hours going over the coding. Extra challenge as so much is in abbreviated German - of which I speak none and Google is at a loss with the abbreviations. Pooring over cheat codes for various models. So many of the options are different or missing. I don't have a Euro car handy for comparison. I will probably try some more; else just wait and hope for BimmerCode. Also would like to get the auto lane change to work. I'll prolly try again tomorrow before throwing in the towel.

So.. No; at least not for code that matches my MY2020.

Honestly; it hasn't been this hard in my other cars (previously owned Audis and a 2008 BMW M Roadster). eSys is complex - much like working with the Windows registry on a computer and, as I mentioned, the abbreviated German makes it even more cryptic. If your a tech guy with a working knowledge of how to edit the Windows registry; you have a decent grasp of what's required to use eSys - and also the understanding of what a chaotic mess it can seem to be. BimmerCode really is a cool option. I think djrobx is correct that the popularity and ease of BimmerCode has hurt the coding market. It's an easy alternative that hit's 80-90% of coding feature people want and takes much of the drive out of the DIY side.
